The Ultimate Fighting Championship is hitting a milestone this weekend by putting on its 100th event from the UFC Apex, and a handful of fights are on the rocks for the UFC Fight Night 247 card after the official weigh-ins took place.
Headlining Saturday’s show is a five-rounder between Neil Magny and Carlos Prates, which sees the veteran going up against a dangerous prospect in a clash to stay relevant in the welterweight division. Both main event fighters successfully made weight, but the same could not be said about the remainder of the lineup. Late replacement Zach Scroggin (174) exceeded the 171-pound cap ahead of his bout with Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, while Melissa Mullins (137) missed weight again before facing Klaudia Sygula. Both heavy fighters have received fines, and negotiations are underway to keep the bouts intact. Additionally, Ricky Turcios succumbed to a medical issue shortly after making weight that ejected him from his pairing with Bernardo Sopai, and the contest has been nixed from the lineup.
This is the fourth time that Magny (29-12) has headlined a UFC card. “The Haitian Sensation” has struggled lately, though, losing two of his last three fights with a TKO win over Mike Malott sandwiched between losses to Ian Garry and Michael Morales. The 37-year-old will look to show he has more left in the tank against his six-year younger opponent. Ever the professional, the American officially weighed 171 pounds.
This marks the first UFC main event for Prates (20-6). Currently 3-0 inside the Octagon with wins over Jingliang Li, Charlie Radtke and Trevin Giles, the 31-year-old prospect would show real promise if he can pass his toughest test yet. The Brazilian is riding an impressive 10-fight win streak and stepped on the scale weighing 170.5 pounds.
UFC Vegas 100 will air in its entirety on ESPN+ on Saturday. Prelims begin at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, while the main card kicks off at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
