Royce Lewis has been stellar in just 14 games this season.
The Minnesota Twins are 41-33 and just 5.5 games back of the division lead; currently sitting in a Wild Card spot. I’m not sure if anyone predicted the Twins would be this good, but I’m pleasantly surprised.
Minnesota has gotten here in large part to their power filled lineup. The Twins rank 10th in runs scored, 7th in home runs, and 3rd in extra base hits. Guys like Ryan Jeffers, Carlos Santana and Carlos Correa have lead this team in XBH and RBI; now you insert Royce Lewis back into this already stacked lineup.
Lewis has played just 14 games so far this season, returning from injury on June 4th. Since returning to the lineup, Lewis is batting 0.380 with 8 home runs and 12 RBI. He’s exceeded expectations, to say the least.
Royce is batting 0.333 against right handed pitchers, posting a 0.861 SLG; with 6 of his 8 home runs coming against righties. He’s batting 0.394 at home this season and 5 of his 8 home runs have come at Target Field.
On the bump for the Rays is seventh year pitcher Zack Littell. He’s posted a 4.24 ERA this season but he’s given up 6+ hits in his 5 of his L6 games, also giving up 7 home runs in that same span.
He’s also allowing righties to hit 0.309 against him, and posting a 5.40 ERA on the road this year. We’re rolling with Royce to stay hot today, let’s see if he can hit one into the stands tonight.
