Last night, the New York Liberty marked the resumption of the WNBA season with a road rout of the Los Angeles Sparks. Tonight, the Connecticut Sun will look to keep pace with them at the top of the WNBA standings in their own road matchup against one of the league’s stragglers, the Dallas Wings (9:30 pm ET, ION).
The Sun wrapped up the pre-Olympic portion of the WNBA season by losing twice to the Liberty over a three-game stretch. As a result, there is now some separation between Connecticut (18-6) and New York (22-4), and it has tightened up the race for a top-two seed, with the Minnesota Lynx (18-8), Seattle Storm (17-8), and Las Vegas Aces (16-8) all within striking distance with plenty of time left.
At the other end of the standings, it’s nearing Desperation Station time for the Wings (6-19).
Entering tonight’s contest at College Park Center, Dallas is four games behind the Chicago Sky (10-15) for the eighth and final playoff spot. But on the bright side, they defeated Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in their final game before the Olympic break. And with nine home games in their 15 remaining regular season games, the opportunity is certainly there to make up some ground if they can get on a run.
However, that home stretch is littered with matchups against the top teams in the WNBA, such as this showdown with the Sun.
Connecticut Sun vs Dallas Wings Betting Analysis
Things have dimmed for the Sun since they opened the season 9-0 and 13-1, as they have lost five of their last ten games.
That has hurt their hopes of landing the top seed for the WNBA playoffs, but they resume play with a fairly favorable stretch.
Out of the gate, they visit the Wings and Atlanta Dream (7-17) before hosting the Sparks (6-19) and Sky.
Given what they have done against the bottom half of the league, nothing less than 4-0 is the expectation.
Entering tonight, Connecticut is 13-1 SU this season against the WNBA’s bottom half (Indiana, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Washington), with the lone blemish a home loss to the Dream when they were on their lone back-to-back of the season to date.
That record includes two wins over the Wings, a 74-72 win at Mohegan Sun Arena on May 31 and an 85-67 victory at College Park Center on June 15.
Dallas, meanwhile, has registered just two wins in 14 games against the top half of the league, a 107-92 win at Phoenix on May 25 and a 94-88 home win over Minnesota on June 27.
That doesn’t bode well for tonight, nor does it bode well for the final month of their season, which presently looks likely to end short of a playoff trip for the first time since 2020.

Connecticut Sun vs Dallas Wings Prediction & Best Bets
Last night, chalk ruled the night as the league got back down to business. All three spread favorites covered, with the Liberty (as an 11.5-point favorite against the Sparks) and Mercury (as a 5.5-point favorite against the Sky) doing so on the road.
Will that continue tonight? You never know what to expect with the Wings. They have the talent to light up the scoreboard, but they are dead last in the WNBA in scoring defense at 89.7 points allowed per game. In games against the top six teams in the league, they have allowed 92.9 PPG, including 93.5 PPG in six home games.
Dallas should be better at both ends of the court with Satou Sabally making her WNBA season debut after suiting up for Germany in the Olympics, but there are still serious defensive deficiencies with this team even at close to full strength.
The Sun aren’t known for their offensive prowess, but they logged their second-biggest road win of the season when they were last in Arlington while going above their season numbers in field-goal percentage (44.8% to 42.6%), three-point percentage (33.3% to 31.4%), and free-throw percentage (86.4% to 76.0%).
It may take them some time to get in the groove, but I expect the Sun to restart their campaign with a win and a cover at College Park Center. I also expect that win to come with an ample number of assists by Alyssa Thomas, who has 23 assists in two games against the Wings this season.
Sun vs Wings Prediction: Sun to win
Sun vs Wings Expert Best Bets: Sun -5.5 & Alyssa Thomas over 8.5 assists (-120 at BetOnline)
