An AL Central rivalry continues on Thursday when the Kansas City Royals (36-26) and Cleveland Guardians (40-20) collide for the second matchup of their three-game series at 1:10 p.m. ET.
There were a ton of fireworks at Progressive Field last night as the Guardians opened the series with a huge 8-5 win. Cleveland’s offensive charge was led by home runs from both Josh Naylor and Tyler Freeman while right-handed reliever Cade Smith notched his third victory of the campaign.
Will Cleveland take a 2-0 series lead with a win? Or will Kansas City rebound from last night’s blown lead?
Let’s answer those questions as we scroll through today’s Royals vs. Guardians predictions and best MLB bets.

Royals vs Guardians Predictions & MLB Picks Today (6/6)
The Royals sure looked like they were on their way to victory last night as they led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Unfortunately for them, things quickly fell apart. The Royals didn’t score another run for the rest of the game as the Guardians eventually tied things up in the seventh.
That’s when disaster struck. Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. tallied a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh that led to the Guardians scoring three runs. Emmanuel Clase came in during the ninth inning to shut things down for his 19th save of the year and the rest is history.
The loss marked Kansas City’s continued struggles as it dropped to 1-4 SU in its last five games and 1-5 SU in its last six road tilts. Meanwhile, Cleveland improved to 13-3 in its last 16 games and has now won 10 of its previous 11 home outings ahead of today’s clash.
The Guardians have won 13 of their last 16 games at Progressive Field.
Let’s also not forget that the Royals struggle to perform in Cleveland. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 trips to Progressive Field, being outscored by the Guardians by an average of 2.8 runs per game. Kansas City also surrendered at least eight runs in four of those matchups.
In other words, the Royals hope that starting pitcher Brady Singer — who’s 4-2 with a 2.63 ERA — can help buck that trend. Having said that, Singer hasn’t had much recent luck against Cleveland lately, going 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA in his last four starts against the division rival.
Meanwhile, the Guardians are turning to Tanner Bibee to get the job done. Not only does the 25-year-old own a 2.83 ERA with 30 strikeouts in his last 28 2/3 innings, but Cleveland has also won each of Bibee’s last five starts.
Taking everything into account, I’m taking the Guardians to win. Between lackluster road play and their recent struggles in this rivalry, I don’t see the Royals winning — especially after yesterday’s collapse. The Guardians are the AL Central leaders for a reason, so look for them to prove that fact.
We’ll also take Cleveland to cover the run line. The Guardians’ 54.2% success rate against the run line as the home favorite ranks fourth-best in the Majors this season. Additionally, each of their last eight home wins against the Royals came by two or more runs.

Ramirez has been one of baseball’s most productive players this season, having recorded 46 runs and an MLB-best 58 RBIs through his first 59 games. The perennial MVP candidate has amassed 16 runs and 17 RBIs in his last 12 games alone (average of 2.8 per game), finishing with the Over on this prop 11 times along the way.
If that isn’t convincing enough, the Over is also 14-5 in his last 19 games against the Royals — a stretch where he tallied 19 RBIs and 18 runs. With how consistent he’s been, I love the odds of Ramirez pulling through again.
