The 2024 CFL Week 3 schedule begins on Thursday with a massive showdown between the Ottawa Redblacks (1-0) and Montreal Alouettes (2-0) at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

The Redblacks made their season debut last week, notching a 23-19 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with help from Justin Hardy’s 111-yard performance. Conversely, the Alouettes improved to 2-0 with a 23-20 victory against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.

Which of these teams will remain undefeated after the dust settles tonight?

Let’s discuss that as we dive into my Redblacks vs. Alouettes CFL Week 3 predictions and best bets.

Redblacks vs Alouettes Predictions & CFL Week 3 Picks Today (6/20)

Tonight’s showdown marks the first clash between the Redblacks and Alouettes during the 2024 CFL season. The East Division rivals clashed four times during the 2023 campaign, resulting in four victories for Montreal.

The Redblacks’ struggles against their rivals stemmed from multiple lackluster offensive performances. Ottawa only averaged 13.5 points in those contests, losing to Montreal by an average of 12.8. In fact, the RedBlacks have lost five straight games against the Alouettes dating back to the 2022 season.

Nevertheless, Bob Dyce’s team has some momentum on its side after beating the Blue Bombers last week. The Redblacks’ defense played a key role in that victory as Ottawa held Winnipeg to 19 points on 309 net yards while holding the latter to just nine points in the second half.

Do the Redblacks have what it takes to improve to 2-0 in the 2024 CFL season?

At the same time, we can’t pretend that the Alouettes — the defending Grey Cup Champions — aren’t 2-0 to begin the new schedule. Montreal opened the campaign with back-to-back road wins against the Blue Bombers and the Elks, outscoring the pair 50-32 on aggregate.

The Alouettes also benefit from having two games under their belt already, whereas it remains to be seen how the Redblacks follow up their 2024 debut. Ottawa QB Dru Brown still only has four career CFL starts in five seasons, meaning he still has a lot to prove — especially against a proven veteran like Cody Fajardo, who’s a former Grey Cup MVP and two-time champion.

Taking the above into account, I’m siding with the Alouettes this evening. The defending champions will want to find success in their 2024 home opener and I’m not sure that the Redblacks can stop them. As long as Montreal’s defense remains consistent, there’s no need to expect an upset tonight.

The Under on the 47.5-point total is also the way to go. In addition to the Under being 9-3 in Montreal’s last 12 games, 12 of Ottawa’s last 14 road games against its rival missed their projected total.

After last season’s four matchups averaged 39.8 combined points, you can see why it’s best to back the Under.

Best Redblacks vs Alouettes CFL Week 3 Player Prop

While several Redblacks vs. Alouettes player props stick out, I recommend taking Tyson Philpot to record over 64.5 receiving yards (-115).

Get 50% up to $1,000 on your CFL Week 3 predictions today at BetOnline

After a career year in 2023, Philpot is continuing to take his game to the next level this season. The British Columbia native has already hauled in 15 of his 17 targets (88.2%) for 190 receiving yards, averaging 7.5 catches and 95 yards per game. Even though the Redblacks played well defensively last week, they also allowed Winnipeg WR Keric Wheatfall to tally 111 yards on three receptions.

After amassing a 6-90-1 stat line in his last matchup against Ottawa, Philpot is on the right path to find more success tonight.

Best Redblacks vs. Alouettes Week 3 Prop Bet: Tyson Philpot o64.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
