Boston’s currently sitting in the third and final Wild Card spot.
The Red Sox have now lost 3 straight games, all coming at the hands of the Dodgers. They’re looking to get back in the win column tonight with a win over the Rockies at Coors Field.
With almost two and half months still left in the season, Boston’s currently sitting in the third and final Wild Card spot, and just six games back of the division lead. The Yankees saw their early season lead disappear and the Orioles went into the All-Star Break on a bit of a cold spell.
Losing 3 straight in Los Angeles was not in the Red Sox itinerary so look for them to bounce back tonight in Colorado.
The home team’s going with veteran, Austin Gomber. He’s been bad this year despite his ERA still remaining below 5. He’s given up 18 home runs this year, tied for 4th most, despite being just one of two guys in the top 20 of home runs allowed with fewer than 100 innings pitched.
Gomber’s allowing righties to hit 0.281 with 12 of the 18 home runs he’s surrendered being against righties. He’s given up 9 home runs at home this year and he’s given up 10 home runs in his L8 starts.
The Red Sox are going with their Ace, Tanner Houck. He’s posted a 2.54 ERA on the year and that number drops to 1.91 in his 8 road starts. He’s given up just 5 home runs this year, and just one on the road.

Tyler O’neill crushes lefties, but he’s also been great at Coors Field. In his career O’neill is batting 0.262 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI in just 11 games at Coors. He’s also recorded a home run in back to back trips, and 3 of his L5 games there.
He went 0/4 last night with 3 strikeouts against the Dodgers and tonight he’ll look to rectify that and get the Red Sox back in the win column.

He’s batting 0.283 this month and now enters the most hitter friendly parks in the league. We’re getting a bit of value on his bases because of his spot in the lineup, but that doesn’t scare me. Sometimes all it takes is just one swing of the bat.

Jarren Duran has set the league on fire this year.

He finished last year hitting 0.295 with 8 home runs and 40 RBI. He’s already smashed those numbers this year and he’s done it in fewer games and his batting average has barely dropped despite far more at bats.
Duran’s played the Rockies just 3 times in his career, all 3 were last year and all 3 were at Fenway. He’s never played an MLB game at Coors so we know he’s going yard at some point during this series.
