Prior to a three-week period that includes two major events and the season’s third significant tournament, the PGA Tour will head north to Ontario for the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
This week on the course, just like the final two rounds of last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, there will be many heavy hearts.
During the third round on Saturday, it was revealed that Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, had died earlier that morning.
Murray, who was candid about his personal struggles, tragically died by suicide. This was announced by his parents on Sunday. The 30-year-old had earlier withdrawn from the tournament after completing 16 holes in the second round.
Despite the heartbreaking news, the Charles Schwab Challenge carried on with the consent of Murray’s parents. Davis Riley emerged victorious, outpacing Scottie Scheffler and Keegan Bradley by five strokes to secure his second PGA Tour title.
Scheffler won’t be participating in this week’s tournament, however, a number of prominent players will be. The main attraction is Rory McIlroy, a two-time victor of the RBC Canadian Open, who clinched the trophy last time the tournament was held at this course in 2019. McIlroy is the strong favorite to win, having a clear advantage over Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala.
If he validates that status, he will be the fifth golfer to achieve three or more victories in the RBC Canadian Open.

RBC Canadian Open Predictions & Picks
RBC Canadian Open Winner Prediction & Pick: Rory McIlroy (+400)
The last time the RBC Canadian Open was held at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, McIlroy (-22) scored a 61 in the final round, ending seven strokes ahead of Lowry and Webb Simpson.
It would be hard to pick against him as it is, but in his last three tournaments, he has two wins (the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Lowry and the Wells Fargo Championship) and a tie for 12th (PGA Championship). So, he is in good form heading into the tournament.
Shane Lowry to finish in the top 10 (+250)
This week sees Lowry returning to the game following his tie for sixth place at the PGA Championship. His performance at Valhalla and on this course in 2019 makes him a strong contender for this week.
Alex Noren to finish in the top 20 (+115)
This is my favorite RBC Canadian Open bet. Here is how Noren has performed in his last eight tournaments (most recent first): tied for 12th, tied for 24th, third, tied for 23rd, tied for 14th, tied for 11th, tied for 19th, tied for ninth.
Adam Hadwin to finish in the top 20 (+200)
Hadwin has struggled to maintain a top 40 finish since recording a season-best tie for fourth at the Genesis Invitational in February, with just one exception being a tie for fifth at the Valspar Championship in March. However, this could be a good opportunity to support him. He was a strong contender in the 2019 RBC Canadian Open, finishing sixth and remaining in contention for the win until the final round.
