Bears vs Chiefs NFL Betting Trends

Bears vs Chiefs Predictions & NFL Picks Today (8/22)

The Bears head into tonight’s action following last week’s 27-3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, improving their preseason record to 3-0 in the process. Veteran tight end Dante Pettis was the show’s star as he turned three receptions into 53 yards and two touchdowns while 2024 first-overall selection Caleb Williams scored a seven-yard rushing TD in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are now winless through two exhibition contests. The defending Super Bowl Champions are now 0-2 following a hard-fought 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs blew an eight-point lead with five minutes to go, ending with Lions kicker Jake Bates tallying the game-winning 43-yard field goal as time expired.

A big reason why the Chiefs are winless this summer is because they haven’t given their starters a ton of playing time. After all, there isn’t much for the majority of returning players to prove given that Kansas City has hoisted the last two Lombardi Trophies. It makes sense that head coach Andy Reid would give his key players as much rest as possible with the regular season looming.

Having said that, don’t expect that trend to change anytime soon.

Don’t expect to see the Chiefs’ starters in action against the Bears tonight. 

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus also revealed earlier this week that his starters won’t be playing tonight either. It isn’t surprising given how well Chicago has played this preseason, however, it’s worth noting that the team’s roster is less finalized than Kansas City. In other words, there’s more of an incentive for the Bears to give a stronger effort tonight than the home team.

Additionally, the Bears are an impressive 8-1 ATS in their last nine preseason games, regardless of if they were the home or away team. Conversely, the Chiefs are 3-4 ATS in their last seven exhibition outings.

Taking the above into account, I’m predicting that the Bears will win tonight. The Bears have more to prove tonight than the Chiefs, who tend to be on cruise control until the regular season begins. Kansas City is good enough to keep things competitive, however, it’s clear that backing Chicago on the spread tonight is the right call.
