Wednesday was a big day for the MMA world as the Professional Fighters League announced that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou will be returning to the octagon on Oct. 19 for PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants.

The event will be taking place at an unannounced venue in Saudi Arabia.

Considering how it’s been over two years since Ngannou last stepped foot in a cage, it’s easy to see why everyone is pumped for October. Having said that, there’s also a lot to know about the PFL event — from the opening fight odds to how you can view the upcoming action.

Fortunately, Betting News is your hub for all things MMA, so let’s take a look at Battle of the Giants and how the event is shaping up.

PFL Super Fights: Ngannou vs Ferreira to Headline Battle of the Giants

With Francis Ngannou returning to the octagon in October, it’s only natural that MMA enthusiasts are wondering who he’ll face. Well, in the same press release, it was also revealed that the ex-UFC champion will be facing current PFL heavyweight champion Renan Ferreira. The winner of the massive main event will become the first-ever PFL Super Fights Champion.

“The Professional Fighters League is excited to announce the highly anticipated return of superstar, undisputed Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou, to MMA in The Battle of the Giants against the most-feared Heavyweight, 6-foot-8 2023 PFL Heavyweight Champion Renan Ferreira in the biggest world title fight of the year.” — PFL CEO Peter Murray.

According to the press release, Ngannou has been studying the 6-foot-8 Ferreira “for years” and that the latter’s skill is more impressive than his size.

Ferreira, 34, is an 11-year MMA veteran who’s fought to a 13-3 record with three no-contests in 19 career fights. He’s currently on a four-fight winning streak with each victory coming via KO/TKO, including three that occurred in the first round.

Meanwhile, Ngannou won six consecutive fights before stepping away from the sport a few years ago. He was knocking out the likes of Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Cain Velasquez, and Curtis Blaydes before hitting his hiatus, leaving time to tell if he will pick up from where he left off.

Additionally, the PFL also revealed the 2024 Battle of the Giants co-main event. MMA fans are excited to see Cris Cyborg — one of the most decorated female fighters of all time — make her company debut as she faces 2023 PFL women’s featherweight champion Larissa Pacheco.

Cyborg is one of the most dominant forces that the sport has ever seen, winning 27 of her last 29 fights. She hasn’t tasted defeat since December 2018, going 7-0 in her last seven fights while finishing five opponents along the way.

As for Pacheco, she’s been fighting for over 12 years while tallying a 23-4 record. After a brief UFC run back in 2014/15, the Brazilian battler has been one of the PFL’s top faces and has won each of her last 10 outings.
