Orioles vs Yankees Predictions & MLB Picks Today (6/18)
Tonight’s matchup is a huge one when it comes to the AL East standings. After all, the Yankees head into tonight’s showdown as the division leaders, however, the Orioles are only 1.5 games behind them despite having played three fewer outings.
Needless to say, the standings could look a lot different after this series is over.
These AL East rivals previously met for a four-game showdown at Camden Yards at the end of April. The Orioles won three of those tilts as they outscored the Yankees 13-6 on aggregate, holding the latter to two or fewer runs in each matchup. Even though New York has the home-field advantage this time, Aaron Boone’s club is only 4-6 SU in its 10 previous home games against Baltimore, which includes dropping four of the last six.
The Orioles also shouldn’t be underestimated given their recent play. Not only are they 8-2 SU in their last 10 games, but they just secured back-to-back wins over the NL leaders.
The Orioles have been racking up victories left and right recently.
As great as the Yankees are, it’s hard to ignore that they’ve dropped three of their last four games with each loss coming against a sub-.500 team.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Yankees can get anything going against Orioles RHP Albert Suarez. The 34-year-old veteran has been phenomenal since returning to the starting rotation at the end of May, going 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and 15 hits allowed in his last 19 1/3 innings.
Meanwhile, New York is turning to Nestor Cortes, who hasn’t won a start since May 22. Although the former MLB All-Star’s 4.50 ERA in his last four starts is less than spectacular, he hasn’t received a ton of support from the Yankees, who were held to exactly three runs in as many of those games.
It’s also worth noting that Cortes surrendered eight earned runs and two homers on 13 hits in his last two starts against the Orioles.
Which version of Nestor Cortes will show up today?
Even though the Yankees are the home team, I’m going with the Orioles today. Baltimore is playing confidently after defeating some of the better MLB teams and has already proven that it can beat New York. After Cortes was lit up by Baltimore less than two months ago, I feel confident about an O’s upset tonight.
With that being said, let’s stick with the Orioles moneyline in the Bronx.
