After losing back-to-back games, the Oilers evened up the series with a 5-2 win over the Stars in Game 4. Dallas took an early lead, but Edmonton managed to take the win with help from five unanswered goals from as many players along with a three-assist effort from Connor McDavid.

Oilers vs Stars NHL Game 5 Predictions & Pick (5/31)
Things looked fairly grim for the Oilers in Game 4. Not only were they down 2-1 heading into the contest, but they also found themselves trailing the Stars 2-0 less than six minutes into the first period. As mentioned before, though, Edmonton found a way to battle back for the win and now has all the momentum as it aims for a 3-2 lead tonight.
Having said that, the Oilers had the home-ice advantage last game and that isn’t the case tonight. The Stars have been terrific at American Airlines Center throughout the year, owning a 30-20 SU record since the beginning of the 2023-24 regular season. Meanwhile, the Oilers are just 26-23 SU on the road with a 5-3 SU record in the postseason.
The Stars also played better defensively at home to begin this series than they did in the last two road games. After allowing just four total goals in Games 1 and 2, Dallas surrendered eight in the two matchups played in Edmonton.
That’s without pointing out that the Stars are 15-5 SU against their last 20 Pacific Division opponents, whereas the Oilers are 2-5 SU against their seven previous Central foes.
Nevertheless, the Stars could be shorthanded on defense tonight. Chris Tanev (lower body) is expected to be a game-time decision after blocking a shot in Game 4 while Jani Hakanpaa is still out with a lower-body injury.
In other words, Dallas will heavily rely on Jake Oettinger to lead them to victory. Although the 25-year-old netminder surrendered four goals on 28 shots on Wednesday, he’s still played to a 2.20 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this postseason.
As for the Oilers, they hope to receive another strong showing from Stuart Skinner. The former Lethbridge Hurricane has slowly turned things around following an inconsistent start to the playoffs, tallying a 2.34 GAA in his last four starts with .909 SV% or better in three of those games.
Game 5 could go either way, but I’m taking the Oilers to win. They have the momentum now and have already proven that they can win in Dallas in this series. With the Stars’ defense potentially missing some key contributors, the door is open for the Oilers to take the lead.
But no matter who wins, the Under on the 6-goal total is the way to go. This series’ first two games in Dallas missed the mark on this prop, after all. In fact, the Under is 7-3 in the last 10 Oilers-Stars tilts played in Dallas, averaging a combined goals per game.
With the Under being 4-1 in Edmonton’s last five road games and 11-4 in Dallas’ previous 15 at home, it’s best not to expect fireworks.
