NHL Futures Best Bets 2024 – Atlantic Division

NHL teams are starting to have their rookie camps and I can smell the sweaty locker rooms from here. That means there is not better time than NOW to start finding value on some NHL futures best bets. This will be a multi-part series that begins today and will run until the first puck drop in early October. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky on my favorite future player props and team point totals of the 2024-2025 NHL season!

1. Lucas Raymond o62.5 Points -115 on BetOnline:

Lucas Raymond of the Detroit Red Wings could have a huge season

The Detroit Red Wings took forward Lucas Raymond 4th overall in the stacked 2020 NHL draft class. However in his first two NHL seasons he was outshined by other players drafted after him. Last season Raymond blew up, racking up 31 goals and 72 points in 81 games. His last fourth of the season was particularly impressive, after a scrum with a teammate in practice seemingly transformed the winger into one of the most dangerous players in the league, putting up 21 points in the last 22 games of the season.

Now the books are gifting us a low season point total, as it is unclear if this performance was repeatable. I’m willing to say that Raymond has turned the corner, and be just as if not even more productive on a deeper Red Wings team. Raymond possesses a combination of speed, skill, and vision that makes him a dangerous offensive threat. He’s shown an ability to create scoring chances and produce points consistently last season. He also had chemistry up and down the lineup, making this NHL futures best bet more enticing.

While Raymond is expected to play on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Alex Debrincat, he can be just as dangerous if the offensive is spread out more as he had fantastic chemistry with Patrick Kane last season as well. That flexibility allow the Red Wings to mismatch Raymond against lesser defensemen. He should also consistently see top power play minutes this season, unlike his last two years where he worked his way up to this role. This prop is set far too low, and my favorite NHL futures best bet I’ve dug up so far.

2. Tage Thompson o36.5 Goals for -115 on BetOnline:

Tage Thompson is a top scoring threat in the league

The Buffalo Sabres will look to make the playoffs for the first time since the early 2010’s this season, as their young core are maturing and making names of themselves in the league. And one player who would love to have a big bounce back is Tage Thompson. The hulking 6″7″ center had a down season. Coming off a 38 and 47 goal season, Tage only managed to pot 29 goals last year. This gives us opportunity on his NHL futures best bet.

Last season Tage dealt with wrist issues. This hindered the velocity which he could snap pucks and made it more difficult for him to control the puck in tight areas. It is easy to think we could see a return to form now that he is healthy. As one of the best pure scorers in the league, Thompson because a focal point of the offensive. He is dominant when given space on the power play, and can break through defenses due to his size and skating ability.

When he is on his game he is one of the most dangerous players on the ice. His 29 goal season feels like a fluke, and something that injury effected. A healthy Thompson with a maturing Buffalo Sabres core of forwards and defensemen should have him soar past his 36.5 goal total. This is another tasty Atlantic division NHL futures best bet.

3. Juraj Slafkovsky o57.5 Points for -115 on BetOnline:

Slafkovsky will be a pivotal piece to the Montreal Canadiens offense

The Montreal Canadiens shocked the NHL when they took winger Juraj Slafkovsky with the 1st overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. The forward was a riser who used his size to dominate players in his draft year. Yet he still had the offensive creativity and soft hands of a skilled zippy forward. This rare combination of size and skill jolted him up draft boards. After a disappointing rookie season Slafkovsky showed why he could become a premier new-aged power forward in the league.

After only putting up 10 points in 39 games his rookie season, Slafkovsky turned heads his sophomore season. He had a 20 goal season with 50 total points, while playing on the top line. His game progressed throughout the season as well, as he became more comfortable. Now this young Canadiens team will be integrating more talent and their core players will be more experienced in the NHL. This should help Slafkovsky and the entire Canadiens offense improve.

Slafkovsky had 50 points on a team that was ranked 26th for goals for per game. With the addition of players like Patrik Laine (a former 40 goal scorer) and younger players like Newhook and Dach potentially having career years, the Canadiens offense could explode. With scoring threats up and down the line up, Slafkovsky should be able to find more space and easier matchups. The power play should also improve. An eight point increase seems like an easy target for Slafkovsky to improve on, making this one of the best NHL futures bets.
