NFL MVP 2024: Early Odds Favor Patrick Mahomes Over Josh Allen, Joe Burrow

These 2024 NFL MVP predictions and best bets are brought to you by various sportsbooks, including BetOnline. BetOnline is a market leader in sports betting, offering various options from the 2024 NFL odds to World Series markets and everything in between.

It’s hard to believe that the start of the 2024 NFL season is already less than two months away. It seemed like the Kansas City Chiefs were hoisting the Lombardi Trophy just yesterday, so meaningful football being right around the corner has NFL enthusiasts pumped across the globe.

NFL bettors are already getting in on some action as the top sportsbooks already have futures markets available, including when it comes to the Most Value Player race. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson took home the glory last season, leaving time to tell which player will follow in his footsteps this fall.

Even though September isn’t exactly tomorrow, it isn’t too early to get in on the race. Let’s take a look at the latest 2024 NFL MVP odds before discussing a few of my picks for the award.

3 NFL MVP 2024 Best Bets

Patricks Mahomes (+500)

Patrick Mahomes is the greatest quarterback in the NFL (perhaps of all time, one day), so it isn’t shocking to see him as BetOnline’s +500 NFL MVP favorite.

There’s just nothing that Mahomes can’t do. The former Texas Tech gunslinger’s arm and football IQ are second to none as he consistently turns the impossible into the most mind-blowing highlight-reel plays on a weekly basis. His elite performances are the main reason why the Kansas City Chiefs have three Super Bowl victories in the last five seasons — including back-to-back victories in the last two postseasons.

Additionally, the NFL MVP conversation isn’t anything new for Mahomes. He’s one of 11 players in league history to have been named the Most Valuable Player twice, first winning it in 2018 before repeating the feat in 2022. Interestingly enough, he joins Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers as the only players to have won the award multiple times since 2020.

Mahomes is now in the perfect spot to win his third MVP award. The Chiefs’ WR is much better than last year with the additions of Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy and the offensive line is poised for another solid year. As long as everyone stays healthy, Mahomes will be in the NFL MVP mix right until the end of the season.

If you like Mahomes’ odds, you better wager on them now before they shorten once the action begins.

C.J. Stroud (+975)

When the 2023 NFL season began, a lot of people couldn’t wait to see how No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young performed. While the ex-Alabama QB showed promise every so often, it didn’t take long for him to be outshined by No. 2 selection C.J. Stroud.

Stroud was the NFL’s top offensive rookie last season as he helped turn around the Houston Texans. The former Ohio State product completed 63.9% of his passes in Year 1 for 4,108 passing yards with 23 touchdowns to six interceptions. He led the entire league with 273.9 passing yards per game and even finished eighth in the MVP voting at just 22 years old.

Considering how impressive he was as a rookie, it’s likely Stroud will get even better with age. He also has one of the best wideout groups in the league at his disposal. Nico Collins and Tank Dell bet looked like WR1s last season and now Stefon Diggs has been added to the mix. That’s without mentioning the likes of Robert Woods, John Metchie III, and tight end Dalton Schultz, as well as Joe Mixon’s addition to the backfield.

Lamar Jackson (+2000)

Even though Lamar Jackson is the reigning NFL MVP, it’s clear that oddsmakers are disrespecting him. The two-way threat only sits at +2000 odds to win the award again, which is only tied for 10th-best among his peers. It’s even more disrespectful when you take into account that, like Mahomes, the 27-year-old signal-caller is also a two-time MVP.

If you’re looking for a dark horse pick, there’s nothing wrong with sprinkling some scratch on Jackson. He’s been one of the best quarterbacks since the beginning of the 2019 NFL season — the first time he was named MVP — having racked up 14,686 passing yards and 119 TDs (to 42 INTs) since then. That’s without mentioning how he’s also turned 728 carries into 4,563 rushing yards and 24 TDs during that stretch.

Jackson’s weapons will be back around him this season, as well as veteran RB Derrick Henry. The four-time Pro Bowl rusher joined the Ravens at the beginning of the offseason and will give the offense a major boost after racking up 7,209 rushing yards and 68 TDs across the last five seasons. If the duo finds instant chemistry, the league could be in serious trouble.

Given that he was a distant +1400 to be named NFL MVP at the beginning of the 2023 season, it’s clear that Jackson should be taken seriously in this year’s race, too.
