The 2023-24 NBA Finals begin on Thursday, pitting the Dallas Mavericks against the Boston Celtics to decide this year’s championship. Not only is the upcoming series loaded with star power but it’s also laced with a plethora of betting opportunities — especially when it comes to prop markers.

For those who are new to betting, a prop is short for “proposition bet.” Rather than reflecting the outcome of a game like the spread or the total, a prop bet tends to be related to a specific player’s performance. For example, projecting Luka Doncic to score at least 30 points in Game 1 or taking the Celtics to win two of the first three games are examples of prop bets.

With all of the talent involved in this series, NBA bettors should be ready for some exciting props in the next few weeks. While figuring out where to begin can be tough, Betting News is here to help make that journey easier.

Here’s an overview of the top three prop bets for the Mavericks vs. Celtics series in the 2023-24 NBA Finals.

NBA Finals 2024: 3 Must-Bet Mavericks vs Celtics Series Props

All Mavericks vs. Celtics NBA Finals 2024 prop odds are courtesy of BetOnline as of Tuesday, June 4 at 9:53 a.m. ET.

1. Game 1/Series Parlay — Boston Celtics (-135)

When it comes to the first NBA Finals prop I like, I can’t help but take the Boston Celtics to win both Game 1 and the series at -135 odds.

No matter the duration of their initial three series, they all started and concluded with a win for the Celtics. So far in the 2023-24 postseason, Boston has a perfect 3-0 record in Game 1s, beating their competitors by an average margin of 16.7 points. Joe Mazzulla’s squad even triumphed in two games by a minimum of 20 points.

The truth is that the opportunity to open every series at TD Garden provides a significant advantage to the Celtics. With a record of 43-6 SU over 49 home games, including both regular season and playoffs, the Celtics boast an impressive success rate of 87.6%. In contrast, the Mavericks hold a road winning percentage of 64.0%.

Dallas can only secure victory in this series if they defeat Boston in multiple games, a task easier said than done. The Celtics have a strong home record, losing only twice during the playoffs, with the latest loss dating back to May 9. Furthermore, Dallas’s record of two wins and six losses in their last eight visits to TD Garden doesn’t bode well for them.

I am completely convinced that the Celtics will utilize their home-court advantage in this series and use it as a stepping stone to secure a championship victory when the day ends.

2. Most Total 3’s in Series — Luka Doncic (-110)

Basketball enthusiasts can wager on a variety of player props during the NBA Finals, including who’ll lead the series in threes made. While both sides feature their fair share of perimeter savants, I’m taking Luka Doncic (-110) to score the most three-pointers in the Finals.

Doncic poses a threat from any position on the court, particularly from the three-point line. The five-time NBA All-Star has an average of 3.4 successful three-point shots out of 9.8 attempts in 17 playoff games, equating to a 34.3% success rate. It’s important to note, however, that this relatively low percentage is primarily due to a sluggish beginning to the postseason. In recent weeks, Doncic has improved significantly, averaging 4.6 successful three-pointers with a 45.7% shooting rate in his last seven games.

Derrick White (+275) is the main contender against Doncic for this prop, also managing an average of 3.4 three-pointers per game. However, in contrast to Doncic, White’s performance is deteriorating, as demonstrated by his average of 2.5 three-pointers with a 32.3 3P% in his recent eight games.

Despite the Celtics boasting one of the strongest defenses in the NBA, Doncic is expected to make a significant impact. This is typical of his style of play. Given any chances from outside, he is likely to seize them, potentially making him the top scorer in this series.

3. Series Spread — Celtics -1.5 Games (-105)

NBA bettors can even get in on some series spread action. When it comes to this prop market, I like the idea of the Celtics winning this series by over 1.5 games (-105).

Despite the Mavericks’ impressive performance in the initial three rounds, the NBA Finals are a distinctive challenge. The team hasn’t vied for a championship in over ten years, in contrast to the Celtics who were at this level just two years prior. This disparity in experience lends Boston a significant edge, especially since they are already acquainted with the sensation of loss.

Betting on the Celtics to cover the spread is a flexible choice. This bet will pay out if they win in four, five, or six games. The only situations it won’t pay out are: 1) if they win in seven games or 2) if the Mavericks win the series. Given that most of Boston’s team has already experienced this level of competition, it’s clear why this proposition bet is attractive.

BetOnline is presently tipping the Celtics to clinch this series in five games (+340), thus lending further credibility to this prop pick. The longer the series continues, the harder it will be for the Mavericks to remain competitive. Therefore, it’s advisable to join the Boston bandwagon sooner rather than later.
