In 2020, Ryan Blaney clinched the Coca-Cola 600 victory and continued his winning streak to secure his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. Fast forward to 2021, Kyle Larson followed suit, adding the Charlotte race to his tally of ten victories for the season.
Will Christopher Bell replicate his success this year? Bell was the fortunate winner of the 2024 Coca-Cola 600, which was halted and later cancelled due to bad weather after 249 of 400 laps. At the time the red flag was raised, he was leading in front of Brad Keselowski and William Byron.
Bell had already secured a spot in the playoffs due to his victory in the Shriners Children’s 500 in March. After his triumph at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he has further solidified his place and will be competing in the group of 16 for the fourth consecutive season.
Bell has been a part of the Championship 4 for the past two years, but has not secured the top spot, finishing third in 2022 and fourth the previous year. Is 2024 his year to shine? Following his victory at Phoenix Raceway in March, he’s setting his sights on a more significant triumph on November 10.
Larson, who was a part of last year’s Championship 4 and finished second to Blaney in the final standings, will need special dispensation to be in contention again this year.
Larson was trying to complete the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double when rain pushed back the start of the race in Indianapolis by more than four hours. Because of this delay, Larson missed the start and eventually the entire Coca-Cola 600. This means Larson will require an exception to participate in this year’s NASCAR Cup Series playoffs due to the regulation stating drivers must start all 26 regular season races to qualify for the playoffs.
Before the Coca-Cola 600, Larson was leading the points standings, outpacing Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. Despite missing the race and falling from the lead, with the waiver situation currently affecting play, Larson is still the favorite to win this season’s title, according to the most recent NASCAR Cup Series championship odds at BetOnline.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship Favorites
Kyle Larson (+400)
Considering the attention that Larson’s double dip attempt garnered, it seems improbable that NASCAR will oppose a waiver request. Thus, we can anticipate Larson getting an opportunity to add his name to the roster of drivers with multiple NASCAR Cup Series championship victories.
Denny Hamlin (+500)
Despite his many accomplishments, Hamlin is still one of the most accomplished drivers yet to secure a NASCAR Cup Series championship. Could this be the year his streak of disappointments finally comes to an end?
William Byron (+500)
Byron topped the Cup Series in victories last season and is currently ahead with three victories in the initial 14 races of this season. Having missed the championship in 2023 despite starting the race in pole position, will this year see him secure the title?
Christopher Bell (+800)
Bell delivered a powerful performance in the 2022 Cup Series championship playoffs and replicated it in the 2023 Cup Series championship playoffs. However, his day at the Phoenix finale the previous year was cut short.
Chase Elliott (+900)
In 2020, the Cup Series champion was unable to participate in several races due to injuries and suspension, and failed to secure a win or accumulate enough points for the playoffs. However, this year has seen a turnaround for Elliott, who has made a triumphant return to Victory Lane with a win at the Texas Motor Speedway, and is now a strong contender for the championship. Is it possible that the most beloved driver in the Cup Series will secure his second title come November?
