Mavericks vs Timberwolves Game 5 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (5/30)
The Timberwolves still face a challenging journey, yet they displayed some vitality with their Game 4 win. However, it’s worth noting that only four teams in NBA history managed to push for a Game 7 after lagging behind by three games, with the latest instance being between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in the previous year’s Eastern Conference Finals.
For the Timberwolves to secure another victory, it is crucial that they control Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for a second consecutive match. On Tuesday, Minnesota effectively limited Irving to 16 points with a .333/.167/1.000 split. Despite Doncic scoring 28 points, his shooting was limited to 33.3% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc.
Simultaneously, the T-wolves require Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns to make a strong appearance once more. The powerful pair found it challenging to get started in the initial three games; however, their joint 54 points in Game 4 served as a promising endeavor.
Minnesota could also maintain its success in three-point shooting. In their last game, the Timberwolves remarkably scored 11 out of 24 (45.8%) from the three-point line, while the Mavericks only managed a 35.0% success rate in their three-point attempts.
Will Kyrie Irving have a bounce-back performance after underwhelming in Game 4?
Despite tonight’s game taking place at Target Center, the Timberwolves may not have much of a home-court advantage. They are already 0-2 at home in this series and have lost four of their last five home games.
Additionally, it should be noted that the Timberwolves have a 1-4 straight up record in their last five games when they were the favorites. On the other hand, the Mavericks have the ninth highest success rate this season when they are road underdogs.
It’s important to highlight that the Mavericks have a strong 6-1 ATS record in their last seven away games, and a 4-1 ATS record from their last five visits to Target Center. This doesn’t bode well for the Timberwolves, as they’ve only managed to cover the spread three times in their last nine games.
The Timberwolves have struggled to consistently cover the spread lately.
While the Mavericks succeeded on the road to begin the series, I’m taking the Timberwolves to win. Minnesota finally looked like its normal self in Game 4 and I expect that to continue into tonight’s affair. It’s going to be another close game, but I have a tough time imagining the T-wolves failing to win at least one home game in this series.
At the same time, I’m taking Dallas to cover the spread. It’s well-documented that the Timberwolves’ recent ATS record isn’t great and they were already outscored by an average of two points in Games 1 and 2. Even though I’m predicting that the home team will win, the Mavericks are good enough to keep things closer than projected.
