This season, the Royals have exceeded even the loftiest expectations. With a current record of 70-55, including a 39-25 performance on their home turf, Kansas City is just two games behind the Guardians, who are leading the division.
KC ranks 3rd in runs per game at home this year, averaging 5.27 runs per game and they’ve recorded a 0.270 team batting average at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals have been good on the road, but they’ve been GREAT in front of the home crowd.
It’s been the MVP-like season by their young stud, Bobby Witt Jr. that’s really set the Royals apart. He’s posted a 0.349 batting average this year with 25 home runs and 91 RBI.
There’s not a lot to discuss regarding the Angels. Their star player, Mike Trout, has missed the majority of the season due to injury, contributing to their poor performance. Trout has been out of action since the end of May and it appears unlikely he’ll return this year.
The Angels, with a 53-72 record and just under 4 runs per game, are ranked 22nd in team batting average. Unfortunately, the situation is likely to deteriorate for the Angels before any improvement is seen.
