Tonight’s WNBA game is the last in the series of four between Lynx and Storm for the 2024 season. It’s surprising to see Seattle as the favorite with a 7-point lead tonight, considering Minnesota has won the previous three games by an average of 13.7 points per game.
The Lynx secured two wins away, including a resounding 83-70 victory at Climate Pledge Arena on May 14. Alanna Smith was the top scorer in the game with 22 points and eight rebounds. In the same match, Napheesa Collier recorded another double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
This skewed series isn’t a recent phenomena. Indeed, the Lynx have now won 6 out of their last 7 games against the Storm, irrespective of the venue.
The Lynx are returning to Seattle with momentum after consecutive victories against the Washington Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks. Conversely, the Storm has lost two out of their last three home games, including a second-half breakdown against the Las Vegas Aces just two days prior.
Will the Storm’s struggles at home continue against the Lynx tonight?
The Lynx will likely be without a key player tonight as Napheesa Collier is doubtful due to a foot injury. The 27-year-old All-Star has easily been Minnesota’s best player this season as she paces her teammates in points (20.0), rebounds (10.2), steals (2.2), and field goals made(7.7).
That being said, since Collier’s last game, the Lynx have secured victories in both matches. Only time will tell if this trend continues.
The Storm is fully fit for tonight’s game and it’s their responsibility to leverage the Lynx’s injury predicament to their advantage.
Do the Lynx have what it takes to beat the Storm if Napheesa Collier (foot) doesn’t suit up tonight?
Even without Collier, I’m still taking the Lynx to win today. They’ve beaten the Storm three straight times this season for a reason, which is a streak that could continue based on Seattle’s recent home play. It’ll be a closer game if Collier doesn’t play, however, Minnesota has what it takes to win either way.
I also recommend backing the Lynx on the 7-point spread. Again, Minnesota has outscored Seattle by nearly 14 points per meeting this season. Even without Collier playing, the visitors are more than talented enough to keep things closer than the oddsmakers project, regardless of whether they pull off the upset or not.
