As the 2024 NCAAF season approaches, it appears that this year’s Heisman Trophy competition is shaping up to be a contest between three main contenders.
Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel opens the year as BetOnline’s +500 favorite to win the hardware. The Ducks newcomer spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Oklahoma, throwing for over 6,800 passing yards with 55 touchdowns across 12 starts. He was named first-team All-Big 12 as he led the Sooners to a 10-3 record before ultimately losing to Arizona at the Alamo Bowl. Gabriel now joins an Oregon team that has the second-best odds (+190) to win the Big Ten Championship in the program’s conference debut.
As he steps into his fifth season with the Bulldogs, senior quarterback Carson Beck has the second-best odds (+850). Last season, Beck, the Georgia signal-caller, topped the SEC with 417 passing attempts, 302 completions, and 3,941 yards. He also set a personal record by throwing 24 touchdowns. It remains uncertain whether he has another level of performance to unleash.
Jalen Milroe from Alabama completes the top three with +1200 odds. The junior quarterback had a solid first season last year, racking up 2,834 passing yards with 23 touchdowns to six interceptions in 13 games. Although his stats may not be the most impressive, they were sufficient for Milroe to be named to the All-SEC second team.

2024 Heisman Trophy Prediction & Best Bet
Forecasting awards in August can be challenging, particularly with the Heisman Trophy. Although favorites have won the award previously, there have also been numerous unexpected winners over the years.
Having said that, I’m going with Texas’ Quinn Ewers at +1200 odds.
With Texas becoming a part of the SEC, Ewers contributes a wealth of experience. The junior QB has accumulated over 5,600 passing yards with 37 TDs in the past two seasons, guiding Texas to a combined record of 20-7. While the team ultimately lost to Washington in the Sugar Bowl, the Longhorns still ended the year ranked as the number 3 team in the country, a feat that wouldn’t have been achievable without their star quarterback.
Despite losing some of his wideouts during the offseason, Ewers will still be accompanied by a top-tier crew this season. Players such as Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and Silas Bolden are geared up to create havoc in the SEC, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Ewers – having thrown a career-best 3,479 passing yards last year – brings out their highest potential.
Ewers has a golden chance to stand out from the crowd early in the season. He and his Texas team have scheduled games with No. 9 Michigan, No. 16 Oklahoma, and No. 1 Georgia between the beginning of the year and October 19. If he impresses and possibly even steers the Longhorns to a win in any of these games, his odds of winning the Heisman Trophy could significantly increase.
Once again, despite its early stage, the 2024 NCAAF season is poised to be a significant one for Ewers.
