NASCAR Cup Series Go Bowling at the Glen Predictions & Picks: Will the Glen Remain a Happy Hunting Ground for HMS?

Over the last several years, Hendrick Motorsports has dominated at Watkins Glen. If that domination continues in Sunday’s Go Bowling at the Glen (3:00 pm ET, USA Network), either Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, William Byron, or Alex Bowman will have locked up a spot in the next round of the Cup Series playoffs.

A Hendrick car has won each of the last five editions of this race. Elliott went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 before the race was shifted to Daytona’s road course in 2020 due to the pandemic. Larson went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022, then Byron took the checkered flag in last year’s race.

Ahead of the second race of the Round of 16, Larson is in the most perilous position of the four Hendrick cars. In last week’s Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Larson took himself and Chase Briscoe out on lap 55 and finished 37th in the 38-car field.

He enters this week tenth in the standings, 15 points ahead of Brad Keselowski, who sits 13th.

Joey Logano secured his spot in the Round of 12 with a victory last Sunday, while Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell occupy the top two spots in the points standings after finishing third and fourth at Atlanta.

A lot could change over the course of 90 laps at Watkins Glen, however. Will someone guarantee themselves a place in the next round with a Go Bowling at the Glen victory? Larson sits atop the pre-qualifying odds at BetOnline, ahead of Tyler Reddick, Shane van Gisbergen, and Hendrick teammates Elliott and Byron, with Ty Gibbs rounding out the list of drivers with odds of +1000 or shorter.

Go Bowling at the Glen Predictions & Picks

Christopher Bell to finish in the top ten (-145 at Bovada)

In the last three Cup races at Watkins Glen, Bell finished third (2023), eighth (2022), and seventh (2021). Also, among his three road starts this season is a runner-up finish at Circuit of the Americas and a ninth-place finish at Sonoma.

Chris Buescher to finish in the top ten (-105 at Bovada)

Buescher, who finished 36th in last week’s race, came in seventh in last year’s Go Bowling at the Glen and ninth in the 2022 edition of the race. Also, in this year’s road races, he finished eighth at COTA and third at Sonoma.

Chase Elliott to finish in the top five (+140 at Bovada)

Last year, Elliott’s chances of potentially contending for a win that would have gotten him into the playoffs were memorably dashed by a fuel-related foul-up by his team. But in his four prior starts at Watkins Glen, he had two wins, a runner-up finish in 2021, and a fourth-place finish in 2022. Look for him to contend for his third Watkins Glen win.

Tyler Reddick to be the top Toyota (+225 at Bovada)

Reddick’s sixth-place finish at Atlanta was his 12th top-ten finish in 14 races, and a 13th in 15th looks very likely at Watkins Glen. He is the only driver to finish in the top ten in all three Cup Series road races this season, coming in fifth at COTA, eighth at Sonoma, and second behind Alex Bowman in Chicago.

Kyle Larson to win the Go Bowling at the Glen

Only three drivers have won this race three or more times (Tony Stewart – five, Jeff Gordon – four, Mark Martin – three), and Elliott, Larson, and Kyle Busch all have a chance to join that club on Sunday. After his early exit at Atlanta, Larson is a strong pick to bounce back in a big way with a victory this week.
