The 2024 NBA Finals will shift to American Airlines Center on Wednesday when the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks collide for an all-important Game 3 showdown at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Celtics fully control the series following Game 2’s 105-98 victory over the Mavericks. Jrue Holiday stepped up when Boston needed him the most, amassing 26 points and 11 assists, while Jayson Tatum (18 points, 12 assists) also registered a double-double in the game.

Celtics vs Mavericks Game 3 Predictions & NBA Picks Today (6/6)

All eyes are on the Celtics to see if they can maintain their momentum in Game 3. A victory tonight would put the C’s one away from taking home the Larry O’Brien Trophy, emphasizing the importance of today’s game for both sides — especially since an NBA team has never come back from an 0-3 deficit.

The Celtics have dominated the Mavericks to begin this series, holding them to just 93.5 PPG on .445/.265/.651 shooting. splits. It doesn’t help that Dallas’ attack is essentially a one-man show with Luka Doncic averaging 31.0 points thus far. The second-most successful player on the team? P.J. Washington with a 15.5 PPG clip.

Meanwhile, Boston is averaging 106.0 points while shooting 46.4% from the floor and 32.1% from deep. Not the best success rates but still better than that of Dallas.

Having said that, the Celtics could be without Kristaps Porzingis, who’s dealing with a concerning lower-leg problem. The European center played an integral role in Boston’s Game 1 victory and even tallied 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in Game 2.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks don’t have any injury designations outside of Luka Doncic, who’ll probably play through his chest injury.

Dallas is hoping that the home-court advantage pays off tonight. The Mavericks have been solid at American Airlines Center this spring, winning 12 of their last 16 home games — including a 5-3 SU record in the postseason.

Conversely, the Celtics are heading into Game 3 as winners of six straight road games, outscoring those opponents by a plus-5.3 average scoring margin. Additionally, Boston has won back-to-back trips to American Airlines Center, which includes notching a 119-110 victory against Dallas back on Jan. 22, 2024.

Having said that, I expect the Celtics to continue their momentum with a win tonight. I just can’t buy into the Mavericks after what happened in Games 1 and 2. The series moving to Dallas won’t make a difference, especially with how Boston already succeeded at AAC earlier this season.

The Under on the 213-point total makes sense. The Under is 5-0 in the Celtics’ last five games in June and 6-1 in the Mavericks’ last seven games against the Eastern Conference. Four of the last five Boston-Dallas matchups also fell short of their projected total with both games in this series finishing with fewer than 213 points.

In other words, expect another solid defensive effort.

The five-time NBA All-Star is averaging 6.8 assists in his last 10 games while finishing with the Over on this prop six times — including in three of the last four outings.
