2024 Coca-Cola 600 Predictions & Picks: Will Gibbs Grab His First Cup Win?

Ty Gibbs failed to capitalize on his pole position in yesterday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, if he can seize the opportunity in today’s Coca-Cola 600 (6:00 pm ET, FOX), he could claim his inaugural Cup Series victory in one of the most prestigious races of the series.

Gibbs started yesterday’s BetMGM 300 at the front but ended in a disappointing ninth place. However, this could be overlooked if he manages to turn his first pole for a points race into his first victory. His pole and victory at last week’s All-Star Open are a testament to his strong performance in his second Cup Series season. After finishing second at Darlington two weeks ago, Gibbs now stands seventh in points after 13 races.

Kyle Larson, who currently leads the standings with a 30-point advantage over Martin Truex Jr., is positioned at the top. Although Larson claimed victory at the 2021 Coca-Cola 600, it won’t contribute to his championship bid this season. He had planned to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in a single day. However, due to weather disruptions at Indy, he may only participate in the Brickyard race today.

This implies that Justin Allgaier, who currently ranks fourth in the Xfinity Series standings, will participate in a Cup race for the first time since the YellaWood 500 at Talladega in 2022.

This implies that Larson might require a waiver to qualify for this season’s playoffs in the not so distant future. Present regulations state that to be eligible for the playoffs, drivers must participate in all 26 regular season races.

Discussing the playoffs, will it be Gibbs or another driver who almost guarantees their spot tonight? Brad Keselowski did so in the last race by securing his first victory in more than three years.

Coca-Cola 600 Predictions & Picks

So far this season, Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing have emerged as the leading teams. Their drivers have secured victories in 10 out of the first 13 races and are currently holding six out of the top seven positions in the standings.

Will Hendrick and JGR continue to dominate at Charlotte? They secured the first three rows of the starting lineup. Alongside Gibbs in the front row is William Byron, followed by Christopher Bell in third position, Martin Truex Jr. in fourth, Chase Elliott in fifth, and Alex Bowman in sixth.

If you’re searching for a winner to support, you need not look further than these six drivers. Byron, last year’s Coca-Cola 600 runner-up to Ryan Blaney and currently leading the Cup Series with three victories this season, is my number one choice from this group. Moreover, I’m confidently predicting he’ll secure a spot in the top three (+200 at Bovada) and a place in the top five (evens at Bovada).

In a unique event, Bovada is offering odds on the top 20 finishing positions for the Coca-Cola 600. This presents a chance to seize some excellent value opportunities without requiring a driver to perform extraordinarily well. While you may not get great odds on the bigger names, three names that stand out to me are Harrison Burton (+140), Austin Cindric (-135), and Austin Dillon (-110).
