Indianapolis Motor Speedway is most famous for the open-wheel race that it hosts on Memorial Day weekend every year. Today, however, it’s all about the stock cars as the Brickyard 400 celebrates 30 years since the NASCAR Cup Series first took to the track (2:30 pm ET, NBC).
From 2021 to 2023, the Cup Series race at IMS was held on the road course as the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.
This year, they are back on the oval, partying like it’s 1994 for the 22nd race of the Cup Series season.
With two races remaining until the series takes a few weeks off due to the Olympics and five races remaining until the end of the regular season, there’s a new leader atop the points standings.
By virtue of collecting 14 more points in last week’s Great American Getaway 400, Chase Elliott has moved ahead of Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson in the race for the regular season championship.

The regular season championship race could see a twist or two this afternoon. Reddick will start on pole, with Hamlin occupying the other spot in the front row. Elliott will start third, and Larson will start fifth. Stage points could prove to be very crucial to how the standings look after the checkered flag.
While all of those drivers are locked into the playoffs, there are still some spots up for grabs. Today could be pivotal for Ty Gibbs, who will start sixth, and the likes of Michael McDowell, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and John Hunter Nemechek, who are all on the outside of the playoff picture but will start today’s race in the front five rows.
Of those three drivers, McDowell, who will start eighth, has the most favorable odds to win. But it’s Reddick who sits atop the Brickyard 400 winner odds at BetOnline, ahead of Hamlin, Larson, Elliott, and Byron, who is looking to make some interesting history today.

Brickyard 400 Predictions & Picks
- Austin Dillon to finish in the top 10 (+350 at BetOnline and Bovada): I don’t pick Dillon often, and he has only two top-10 finishes this season. But these are the kinds of races where interesting things can happen, and he is one of the drivers I like picking for races like these because of his level of experience. He will start 11th, and if he can stay out of trouble, I think he can have one of his best finishes of the season.
- Tyler Reddick to finish in the top five (-133 at Bovada): Polesitters don’t have a high conversion rate with landing in Victory Lane, and Reddick is not my winner pick with that partly in mind. But he is on a great run right now, with six top-six finishes in his last eight races, and even if he doesn’t win, I expect him to continue his run of strong finishes.
- William Byron to win Group B (Reddick +120, Elliott +250, Byron +300, Truex +600 at Bovada) & win the race: In 1994, Jeff Gordon won the inaugural Brickyard 400. Ten years later, Gordon won the 2004 Brickyard 400. Ten years after that victory, Gordon won the 2014 Brickyard 400. I think you see where I’m going here. Byron didn’t come through as my winner pick last week, but I’m going back to the well this week for the #24.
