Astros vs Mariners Prediction & Best Bets (5/30): Will Streaking Seattle Complete the Home Sweep?

After a slow start this season, the Seattle Mariners now sit atop of the AL West. Key to that rise in the standings has been success in close games. Their latest tight triumph has them poised to break out the brooms against the Houston Astros this afternoon (4:10 pm ET, ESPN+).

The first three games of the series between Houston (24-32) and Seattle (31-26) have been close, low-scoring contests. After winning 3-2 on Monday and 4-2 on Tuesday, the Mariners walked it off with a 2-1 win in Wednesday’s matchup, with J.P. Crawford’s sac fly in the 10th plating the decisive run.

Will Houston be able to salvage something from this series before heading home to host the Minnesota Twins? Or will Seattle pick up a season-high fifth straight win?

Pitching Matchup for Astros vs Mariners

  • Seattle Mariners: RHP Logan Gilbert (11 starts, 3-2, 3.06 ERA)

Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners Betting Analysis

After facing and being stymied by Bryce Miller (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K), Luis Castillo (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, BB, 6 K), and George Kirby (6 IP, 6 H, R, 0 BB, 8 K), the Astros must deal with Gilbert in the series finale.

When they last did so, the 27-year-old tossed eight shutout innings, allowed two hits and four walks, and struck out six in a 5-0 Mariners win in Houston on May 4.

Gilbert’s ERA is inflated somewhat by his next start, in which he allowed eight runs in four innings at Minnesota. That was a rough result, but he has been one of the standout starters in MLB over the first two months of the season. He has gone 6+ innings and allowed three or fewer runs nine times, including each of his four home starts.

His opposite number has had some nice outings this season, but none of them have been away from the comfort of Minute Maid Park. Arrighetti has a 10.26 ERA in his four road starts, and he has given up 27 hits, 19 runs (all earned), and 11 walks in just 16.2 innings. Unsurprisingly, the Astros have lost all four of those games.

The outlook isn’t an optimistic one here, either. The Mariners have a major advantage on the mound and are just better overall right now. Take the home to break out the brooms and put some runs on the board against Arrighetti in the process after scoring nine runs in the first three games.
