Friday’s MLB schedule will see the Houston Astros (40-40) and New York Mets (39-39) beginning a three-game series at Citi Field when they collide at 7:10 p.m. ET on Apple TV+.

The Astros lengthened their winning streak to seven straight days following their impressive 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. In the meantime, the Mets are on the pursuit of their fourth consecutive win after their clean sweep against the New York Yankees in the initial part of the Subway Series.

Will Houston secure another victory, or will New York have the final chuckle on their home turf?

Tonight’s competition is also filled with MLB betting opportunities. So, let’s spotlight a few as we delve into my predictions and top bets for the Astros vs. Mets game.

Astros vs Mets Predictions & MLB Picks Today (6/28)

Fans of Major League Baseball are likely to enjoy a treat when these teams clash in some inter-league games in Queens, NY. This is because both teams have been performing well in the Majors in recent weeks.

As previously stated, the Astros have secured seven straight victories leading up to tonight’s game. During these wins, they have achieved a score of 48-20 against their opponents, and have impressively limited the last four teams they played against to just five runs in total. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Houston has a record of 9-1 straight up in their last 10 encounters with New York.

That being said, one should not underestimate the current Mets team. They have been consistently victorious, registering a 15-4 SU record since June 3rd. Their winning percentage of 78.9% tops the list in the MLB.

In terms of offensive production during that period, New York is ranked third for runs and home runs, seventh for hits, third for RBIs, and first for on-base plus slugging percentage.

The Mets’ bats have been a consistent presence throughout June.

This evening’s competition signifies the 18th instance this season where the Mets are not favored to win at home. So far, their performance in this situation has been inconsistent, with a Straight Up (SU) record of 8 wins and 9 losses (47.1%). On the other hand, the Astros have a less favorable SU record of 8 wins and 13 losses (38.1%) when they are predicted to win on the road in 2024.

Despite any obstacles, the Astros stand a strong chance of winning every time Ronel Blanco steps onto the field. The seasoned 30-year-old player has been formidable in his recent three games, boasting an undefeated record of 3-0. He also maintains an impressive 0.90 ERA, having amassed 20 strikeouts in the same number of innings and allowing just seven hits.

Meanwhile, Houston’s team will have to go up against Mets’ left-handed pitcher, Jose Quintana. The ex-All-Star lefty has managed to bounce back after a rough beginning to the season. He has given up only two earned runs over 12 1/3 innings in his recent two starts, achieving 14 strikeouts and three walks in the process.

Mets LHP Jose Quintana has looked like his old self in recent appearances.

This game could go either way, but I’ll take the Astros on the road. They’ve had the Mets’ number for quite some time now and swept the last two-game series they had at Citi Field. Throw in the fact that New York is only 7-10 SU in inter-league matchups this season and it’s even easier to see Houston escaping with the win.

Still, the Under on the 8.5-run total is my preferred bet. For starters, the Under is 13-3 in the last 16 clashes between these two clubs at Citi Field. The Under is also 25-18 for New York at home this season while being 25-11-1 in Houston’s road tilts.

Considering the recent good performance of Blanco and Quintana as pitchers, it’s probable that there won’t be a lot of runs in tonight’s game.

Best Astros vs Mets MLB Player Prop (6/28)

After some thinking, Jose Altuve o1.5 total bases (+117) stands out as the best available Astros vs. Mets player prop tonight.

Recently, Altuve has been showcasing some of his finest baseball of the season. The ex-AL MVP has been striking .368/.394/.559 with 25 hits, four doubles, three homers, and 14 RBIs in his recent 16 games, significantly contributing to Houston’s 11-5 SU record in those matches. He accumulated 38 total bases over that period (averaging 2.4 per game) and finished with the Over on 10 occasions, including his last three games.

Given that Altuve is hitting .337/.378/.481 against left-handed starters this season, I predict he will have a successful night against Quintana.
