As you can see, this division has been dominated by these two teams, but this year it is completely wide open. The betting odds suggest this will be a three team fight in the division, with Miami looking for their first Division Title since 2008, and the Jets their first since 2002. However we’ve got some exciting quarterbacks in this division, some new faces, and plenty to talk about. Let’s start with the odds to win it all.

Vegas is pretty much telling us, “Hey, we don’t exactly know who wins this division, but it’s not going to be the Patriots”. And I agree completely. New England is the clear outlier in this division, as they just parted ways with Bill Belichick. They need to figure out their QB situation after abandoning Mac Jones and drafting Mac Jones 2.0 in Drake Maye at 3rd overall. Will the former Tar Heel work out for the Pats in life after both Tom and Bill?
AFC East 2024 Team Previews
New England Patriots
Can Drake Maye stand out for the Patriots in the NFL?
Now, the 3rd overall pick is technically 2nd on the depth chart, and has possibly been outplayed by Joe Milton in training camp as well, so who knows who will start for New England in Week 1 of Life After Belichick. Jacoby Brisset is listed as the teams starter, but other than RB Rhamondre Stevenson, I’m not sure how much help he has. The WR room is made up of Kendrick Bourne, DeMario Douglas, and rookie Ja’Lynn Polk, who I think could be a stud with his talent. Hunter Henry remains at TE, but ultimately New England lacks offensive fire power and skill players who can score points.
They were dead last in scoring last season, and after no major changes, I see them finishing there again. They scored less than 2 touchdowns per game last season, and allowed over 3 to their opponent. While the defense isn’t terrible, they also did not improve much. Christian Gonzalez has proven to be a lock down corner, and he will have his hands full against Tyreek Hill and Garrett Wilson this season.
Ultimately, this division is up in the air, but if one thing is certain, it’s that the Patriots will finish last.
Miami Dolphins
Can Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins find a way to win the AFC East?
The Dolphins lost their last 2 games last season to finish 2nd in the AFC East and thus losing to Kansas City in the first round of the playoffs. The team is quite stacked and also made some key offseason acquisitions as well. For starters, we have Tua, the RB tandem of Mostert and Achane, mixed with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the outside. The offense doesn’t have very many questions marks, as long as the weather is warm, and the defense certainly got better.
The defense already had Bradley Chubb, Jalen Ramsey and Kendall Fuller, but signing DE Calais Campbell and SS Jordan Poyer from the Bills is massive. This team has a very solid secondary and just bolstered their run stopping as well. At +200, if someone gave me a free unit, I would bet it on the Dolphins to win the AFC East this season. In my opinion, this team made the biggest improvements and will be the scariest offense in the division. Perhaps the scariest offense in the league besides the one quarterbacked by Mahomes.
New York Jets
Can Rodgers pilot the Jets to a division title?
Aaron Rodgers will be making his long awaited (2nd) debut for the Jets after injuring himself in the first game of last year. The Jets have gained plenty of respect from bettors as they are the 2nd favorite to win this division, and I like them ahead of the Bills personally. Rodgers is old, but he can still sling the pill, and he’s got weapons to help him. Breece Hall has proven to be a dynamic 3 down running back, and with Garrett Wilson, new signing Mike Williams, and a plethora of other options, the Jets could score some points this year, something they aren’t necessarily used to doing.
The Jets barely scored 15 points a game last season, but their defense kept them afloat. With Rodgers back at the helm, I think this team could surprise a lot of people. Sauce Gardner leads a solid secondary, and signing Hassan Reddick certainly ups the pass rush. The Jets drafted OL Olu Fashanu who will immediately help protect the old man behind the line. If the Jets defense can play great again, and the role receivers step up for this team, then I could see them making a playoff push.
Buffalo Bills
Can the Bills top the division without Diggs?
The Bills will go as far as Josh Allen can take them, and personally, I don’t think it’s very far. Their biggest loss was losing Stephon Diggs to the Texans, and even after drafting Keon Coleman, I think it will take some time for the rookie to adjust. Buffalo’s offense is not what it used to be, with Khalil Shakir as their current WR1. I’m sure Allen will rely heavily on TE Dalton Kincaid in the passing game, and I could see him leading the Bills in receptions and targets.
Besides Shakir and Coleman, the WR Room is rounded out by Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, and MVS. Not great in my opinion. But let’s talk about their defense. The Bills once great defense has now all moved on. Key departures include DB Tre’Davious White who went to the Rams, and DE Leonard Floyd, who signed with the 49ers. Matt Milano and Rasul Douglas are the big names on this defense now, and I do not see them being able to shutdown the Dolphins or Jets offense. The Bills will need to score points to win, but I’m not confident Allen can do that with the team around him.
