Aces vs Storm Prediction & Expert Picks (9/17): Will the Aces Clinch a Top Four Seed?

The Las Vegas Aces have not had the season they were expected to, but they appear to be hitting the right gear as the WNBA regular season winds down. With a win tonight at Seattle (10:00 pm ET, NBA TV), the two-time defending champions will win for the eighth time in nine games and clinch at least the #4 seed in the playoffs.

Entering tonight’s game against the Storm (24-14, 14-5 home), the Aces (25-13, 13-6 road) are a game ahead in the WNBA standings. With a win tonight, Las Vegas will clinch the #4 seed and homecourt advantage for a first-round series against Seattle. And if the Lynx can take down the Sun (27-11) at Mohegan Sun Arena, the #3 seed will remain up for grabs ahead of the final night of regular season action on Thursday.

While the Aces are on a good run, the Storm are as well, having won their last four games. That has kept Seattle in the hunt for the #4 seed, but they need a win tonight to keep those hopes alive with a rare home win over Las Vegas.

Aces vs Storm Betting Analysis

The Storm have the third best home record in the WNBA, but one of their five home losses is an 84-79 defeat to the Aces on July 10.

That was their seventh loss in their last nine home regular season games against the Aces, who enter tonight’s contest tied with the Lynx for the third best road record in the league.

The odds are heavily in favor of the visitors winning their final road game of the regular season. The Aces are 7-1 SU and 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight games, and they are 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS on the road this season against their fellow top-six teams.

The Storm, meanwhile, are 4-3 SU and 3-4 ATS in seven home games against their fellow top-six teams. That isn’t all that bad, but they are 2-7 SU and 4-5 ATS as an underdog this season.

Aces vs Storm Prediction & Expert Picks

The Storm are in good form right now, but this is not a fantastic spot to back them.

The Aces have had their number recently in Seattle, and though they haven’t had an outstanding season by their standards, they have done well in road games against the better teams in the league and even managed to cover against the Liberty at Barclays Center nine days ago when Wilson missed the game due to injury.

Speaking of Wilson, she made only 7 of 18 shots in her last visit to Seattle but still finished with 24 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, recording the first 20-20 game of her WNBA career.

In three games against the Storm this season, Wilson is averaging 26.7 points per game and 13.3 rebounds per game.

Wilson didn’t hit this number at Climate Pledge Arena last time out, but she has scored 27 or more points in 12 of 18 road games this season. If she shoots 50% or better from the field like she has 11 times on the road this season, she will be well-positioned to get to at least 27 points.

And if she does hit that number, it bodes well for the Aces’ hopes of clinching at least the #4 seed, as they are 16-7 SU this season when Wilson scores 27+ points. If she can pair that with 10+ rebounds, it will also bode well for the Aces, as they are 12-3 SU when Wilson has 27+ points and 10+ rebounds.

Aces vs Storm Prediction: Aces to win

Aces vs Storm Picks: 1) Aces -9 2) A’ja Wilson over 26.5 points (-122 at BetOnline)
