The Atlantic Coast Conference is for a great NCAA Football season this year as they recently underwent some expansion. The ACC added 3 teams and now features 17 total squads in the conference. Ironically enough, the conference actually stretches from coast to coast after adding the newcomers. The ACC added:
- California
- SMU
- Stanford
While SMU is the only team that has a shot at winning the ACC in their first year, I don’t think the Mustangs can get over the Top 4 teams in this league who are very, very good. After the AP Top 25 dropping, the ACC has 4 teams ranked in the Top 25. The Florida State Seminoles are 10th, Clemson Tigers at 14th, Miami Hurricanes at #19 and the NC State Wolfpack rounding us out at #24. Now, Louisville and Virginia Tech are theoretically the 26th and 27th teams in the nation based on the points received, and SMU would also be in the Top 30.
This will be quite the exciting conference with the new faces, so let’s see if we can find our favorite bet!

- Florida State +320
- Clemson +375
- Miami +400
- NC State +475
- Virginia Tech +750
- Louisville +775
- SMU +1200
- North Carolina +2500
- Syracuse +3300
After those top 9 squads, the fall off is drastic.
- California 100-1
- Georgia Tech 100-1
- Pittsburgh 125-1
- Virginia 125-1
- Duke 150-1
- Boston College 150-1
- Wake Forest 250-1
- Stanford 500-1
I am not giving any of these bottom teams a chance, and really I don’t trust the Tar Heels or Orange either. I think the ACC Champions is easily within the Top 7 of the betting board, and ultimately it probably stays within the Top 4. Those ranked teams are head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in terms of talent, and it will be tough to get wins in conference play.
Could This Be Miami’s Year?
Dual Threat QB Cam Ward looks to lead Miami to the ACC Championship
Look, the Hurricanes had a very disappointing 2023 season, finishing 7-6 and losing in the Pinstripe Bowl to Rutgers. But their schedule is very favorable this year, and I think they take advantage of an underperforming conference. Washington State transfer QB, Cam Ward, takes over for this Hurricanes offense, and the toughest game on their schedule is Florida State. They open up in Gainesville against the Gators, but Florida should not be a threat this season.
Miami hosts #10 Florida State and Virginia Tech, while having to travel to face Louisville who are currently unranked. The Hurricanes avoid both Clemson and NC State until a potential ACC Championship match, and obviously hosting the Seminoles is more than ideal. Ultimately, I think the Hurricanes are a very talented team that will only go as far as their focus takes them.
No Trust in Cade Klubnik, Clemson
Can Cade Klubnik lead the Tigers into the CFP?
While Clemson should be a solid football team this year, I do not necessarily trust them to get past the big dogs in their conference. Plus they have a very difficult schedule ahead. Clemson opens up the year by hosting #1 Georgia on ABC on August 31st. After that they play Appalachian State who always seems to give Power 4 Teams trouble, and #24 NC State. It’s s tough first few weeks for the Tigers, and they will need to somehow come out of there with 2 wins. Just a couple weeks later, Clemson gets their first true road game down in Tallahassee, taking on the #10 Florida State Seminoles.
I think the Seminoles handle business as Uiagaleilei faces his old team at home. While the back half of Clemson’s schedule is a bit lighter than the start, they still host Louisville and play Virginia Tech on the road. While the Tigers avoid Miami during the regular season, they will have their work cutout for them with their other ACC and non-conference opponents.

Final ACC Predictions
I don’t really have any “Dark Horses” for this conference, as I sincerely see it staying within the Top 4 teams. The one team that could surprise some people in my opinion is SMU. The ACC newcomers have an extremely easy ACC schedule, hosting #10 Florida State, while avoiding Clemson and Miami all together. The Mustangs do take on BYU and TCU early in the season, but that will be the perfect prep for their team to face some real conference opponents.
