Next week, many of the biggest names in golf will take aim at an Olympic gold medal. This week, the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy will be taking a week off from tournament action, but there’s still a strong field to look forward to for the 3M Open in Minnesota.
This is the sixth edition of this tournament, which will once again be played at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, which is north of Minneapolis.
With the Open Championship taking place last week and the Olympic golf tournament taking place next week, the 3M Open might be overlooked by many.
However, there are a lot of notable names in the tournament field. That list includes 2022 champion Tony Finau, Sam Burns, amateur star Luke Clanton, and Open Championship runners-up Billy Horschel and Justin Rose, who finished two shots behind tournament winner Schauffele.
Finau sits atop 3M Open odds at BetOnline, ahead of Akshay Bhatia, Sam Burns, and Clanton, who has recorded two top-ten finishes in his first four PGA Tour starts.

3M Open Predictions & Picks
Tournament Winner Pick: Tony Finau (+1100)
Finau missed the Open Championship due to a forgettable Friday, as he shot a 10-over 81 which included a triple-bogey seven on the ninth and a quadruple-bogey eight on the 12th.
But prior to his early exit last week, Finau had been on a strong run. He tied for eighth at the Memorial, tied for third at the U.S. Open, then tied for fifth the following week at the Travelers Championship.
Those results help boost the confidence in Finau’s chances to pick up his first PGA Tour win since last year’s Mexico Open.
His success at TPC Twin Cities does as well. In addition to his 2022 win, Finau finished tied for third in the 2020 3M Open and tied for seventh last year.
Akshay Bhatia to finish in the top 10 (+275)
Bhatia missed the Open Championship cut, coming up a shot short of playing the weekend at Royal St. George.
Back in the United States, Bhatia should have a much better result this week. Prior to last week, Bhatia finished tied for fifth at the Travelers Championship and tied for second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Sam Burns to finish in the top 10 (+275)
Entering the final round of the Open Championship, Burns was just one shot out of the lead. But he had a horrific Sunday in Scotland, carding a double-bogey six on the 11th hole and a triple-bogey seven on the following hole on the way to shooting a nine-over 80.
But I think he will shake off that Open Championship finish and perform well at the 3M Open. He hasn’t played the tournament since 2020, but he did finish tied for seventh in the inaugural edition of the 3M Open in 2019.
Emiliano Grillo to finish in the top 20 (+220)
Grillo isn’t in the best of form at the moment, as he has either missed the cut or finished outside of the top 20 in every tournament since tying for eighth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.
But he is one of my top names on the board for this week thanks to his success in this tournament. He has yet to win the 3M Open, but he tied for third in 2020, tied for second in 2022, and tied for tenth last year. If you’d like to jump on some addition value with Grillo, he is +500 to finish in the top ten and +1100 to finish in the top five.
Billy Horschel to finish in the top 20 (+125)
Horschel fell a couple of shots short on Sunday, but that wasn’t because he played poorly. With birdies in his final three holes, he finished with a three-under 68. It wasn’t enough to stop Schauffele from his second major of the year, but it was Horschel’s best-ever major finish.
As a result, he will—or should, at least—enter the 3M Open with a big boost of confidence.
This will be his first appearance in the tournament, so I won’t go as far as saying he will contend for the win. But after playing well at Royal St. George, I like his chances to record back-to-back top-ten finishes in PGA Tour events for the first time since 2020.
