The Stank:
The Florida State Seminoles are stepping into Week 0 with a goal to make amends following a powerful season that concluded in dismay. Even though they won the ACC and had a flawless record, they were overlooked for the College Football Playoffs. Now, their resolve is to demonstrate that they were deserving of a place.
Four starters from offense, four from defense, and two from special teams are returning to Florida State. These seasoned players, supported by the rest of the team, are eager to prove themselves in the upcoming season, choosing to focus on the present rather than dwell on last year’s slight.

The Seminoles’ defensive unit, including their secondary and defensive line, remains powerful, with a sturdy offensive line to boot. Yet, a significant portion of their success this season, and in this game, will depend on DJ Uiagalelei. Despite facing difficulties during his stint at Clemson, he displayed potential early by securing a win for the team against Notre Dame as a freshman, stepping in for Trevor Lawrence who was sidelined due to COVID. His time at Clemson may not have been as remarkable later on, but his single season at Oregon State proved fruitful. He delivered 2,638 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and a mere seven interceptions—figures that rivaled his final season at Clemson in 2022, but with 54 fewer attempts.
Despite Georgia Tech being an average team, it raises concerns as they are among the top ten teams with returning players this season, including their starting quarterback, Haynes King. In a time when player transfers are common, this continuity hints at the program’s potential development that the players trust – a vital aspect in sports. Although belief and confidence can be risky, I don’t envision King steering Georgia Tech towards a surprise victory over the Seminoles.
Florida State is expected to overpower Georgia Tech decisively. I’m willing to take the gamble in Week 0, however, I would be more cautious if it was any other week.
