Nearly every South African footballer dreams of playing their sport abroad, be it in Europe, North America, or North Africa.

However, not every player will attain the level where foreign clubs are eagerly seeking their signature.

In some instances, the player possesses more than enough talent to succeed internationally, however, due to unfortunate circumstances, an overseas move never comes to fruition.

People who manage to go abroad, particularly at a young age, are often anticipated to achieve great heights.

Nonetheless, the truth is that navigating life away from home, loved ones and familiar environments isn’t simple and many people end up returning prematurely.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Themba Zwane recently revealed that he was ‘surprised’ by teammate Kobamelo Kodisang’s return to the Premier Soccer League.

Kodisang seemed to be enjoying a solid career in the Portuguese top flight with Moreirense, yet chose to abbreviate his tenure.
