MORNING SKATE RECAP

Stay tuned after the Devils 11:30 a.m. morning skate in Detroit for all your updates!

THE SCOOP

The Devils are looking to rebound from two losses on home ice to both the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning. Over the past two games, New Jersey has conceded 14 goals to their opponents, while scoring 10 of their own. Head coach Sheldon Keefe was not pleased, particularly after the Lightning loss, but appreciated the way his club responded in Wednesday’s practice.

“It was great energy. A great practice,” he said. “It showed me that we have a group that’s committed to getting better, which is what I wanted to see and what I spoke to them about last night. I was really happy with that and now we get a chance to bring it on the road with us.”

The first power play unit of Dougie Hamilton, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Jack Hughes and Stefan Noesen has begun to click. Noesen scored in the third period on Tuesday night with the man advantage, while Hamilton picked up one of his own against the Capitals. Since Noesen joined the first unit last week, the unit as a whole has scored four power play goals, dating back to the Monday afternoon game versus Utah on Oct. 14.

The Red Wings, 3-3-0 this season, are coming off a 1-0 shutout victory against the New York Islanders. The Wings mustered just 11 shots on net over the 60 minutes and still etched out the victory, marking a win with the lowest total shots by the Wings since the stat has been tracked (1959-60). Alex Lyon was credited with the 29-save shutout.

WHO’S HOT

Devils: Timo Meier is on the clock! In his last two games Meier has five points (2g-3a). Against the Lightning, Meier had a two-goal night, while against the Capitals he had a three-assist outing.
