Vikings WR Justin Jefferson to seek multiple opinions on injured hamstring

Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson will seek multiple medical opinions on his injured hamstring, head coach Kevin O’Connell said on Monday.

The coach didn’t provide a timeline on Jefferson and is unsure if the wideout will be available Sunday against Chicago.

O’Connell informed reporters on Monday that Justin is still being assessed for his hamstring strain. He promised to keep them updated on potential recovery timelines and his potential availability for this week or beyond.

Jefferson left Sunday’s home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter with the hamstring injury. He did not return, ending his day with three catches on six targets for 28 yards.

O’Connell mentioned that considering Jefferson’s competitive spirit, the team would need to safeguard the receiver “from himself.”

O’Connell stated, “Diverse opinions may surface, but we must first conduct an MRI to fully understand the situation. We need to identify the exact issue, its location, and any contributing factors to make the best decision for a swift recovery. He’s not feeling well today. His competitive spirit is remarkable; he even attempted to rejoin the game yesterday. However, we must take appropriate medical action, which may include safeguarding him from his own determination, to ensure he fully recovers.”

If Jefferson is out any amount of time, Kirk Cousins will lean on rookie wideout Jordan Addison, who led the Vikes with six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, and K.J. Osborn at receiver. Tight end T.J. Hockenson could also see an uptick in targets if Jefferson is out.
