Titans, Nissan taking naming rights to new stadium under 20-year deal

The Tennessee Titans, a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee, will be shifting to a new stadium for the 2027 season. As part of a new 20-year naming rights agreement with Nissan North America, they will be retaining their current name at the new location.

On Friday, the Titans announced an exclusive deal to continue playing at Nissan Stadium. The financial details of the agreement were not revealed. The team’s current stadium has been known as Nissan Stadium since 2015.

The new enclosed stadium is scheduled to open for the 2027 NFL season and will be built in the parking lots between Interstate 24 and the current stadium. Nashville already has a group working to land events ranging from a Super Bowl and a Final Four to concerts for the $2.1 billion building.

“Considering our longstanding friendship with Nissan, this partnership is a natural progression,” said Burke Nihill, Titans president and CEO.

Nissan operates two manufacturing plants in Tennessee, with its North American headquarters located in Franklin, south of Nashville. The company provides employment to over 11,000 people within the state of Tennessee.

As part of the agreement, Nissan will also back the Titans’ ONE Community outreach initiative. This includes a 12,000-square foot area at the new stadium dedicated to community events throughout the year. Jérémie Papin, the chairperson of Nissan Americas, expressed that Nissan Stadium is a significant feature of Nashville’s skyline.

“Papin emphasized the significance of Nissan maintaining its naming rights to the new stadium. He added, “With the increasing influx of people visiting or relocating to the charming city of Nashville, Nissan Stadium acts as a prominent display of our brand. It also highlights the career opportunities we have been providing here for over forty years.”

The current stadium, opened in 1999, will be replaced by the new stadium. The upcoming Nissan Stadium is set to be constructed with the largest public funding commitment ever made for an NFL stadium, amounting to a combined $1.2 billion in state and local bonds.
