Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo taken to hospital for back injury suffered in win over Patriots

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was transported to a local hospital after suffering a back injury during Sunday’s 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.

Garoppolo was initially designated as doubtful to return as the second half began, but was quickly ruled out. Brian Hoyer took over under center for the Raiders.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels confirmed after the game that Garoppolo was taken to a local hospital.

“Everyone is aware that Garoppolo has left,” McDaniels stated. “Currently, they’re conducting tests and ensuring all necessary procedures are taken care of. As of now, I don’t have an update on Jimmy.”

After a field goal drive, Garoppolo seemed agitated on the sideline and conversed with trainers while sitting on the bench. In the final moments of the first half, he independently walked to the locker room while the game clock was still running.

Garoppolo left with the Raiders leading, 13-3. He was 14-of-22 for 162 yards, a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers and an interception in the first half.

Garoppolo, who was picked by the Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, guided the Raiders in three scoring drives in less than two quarters while facing his former team. In the second half, Hoyer spearheaded two scoring drives, ending with a 6-of-10 pass completion for 102 yards.

This offseason, the Raiders signed Garoppolo, bringing him back together with his former Patriots offensive coordinator, McDaniels, who is currently the head coach for Las Vegas.

Garoppolo has completed 100 out of 147 passes for 1,079 yards, seven touchdowns, and eight interceptions in just over four games. However, a concussion has already sidelined him for one game. The Raiders are now in a holding pattern, hoping he will not have to sit out any more games.
