The Miami Dolphins backfield won’t be at full strength for Thursday night’s tussle against the Buffalo Bills.
Coach Mike McDaniel announced Raheem Mostert won’t suit up after suffering a chest injury in the team’s 20-17 win over the Jaguars. McDaniel added that De’Von Achane could be a game-time decision due to an ankle issue.
“We’ll see how it plays out,” the coach said of Achane, who is officially listed as questionable.
Mostert, the NFL’s reigning rushing touchdown leader, ran for nine yards on six attempts in Week 1 and added two catches for 10 yards.
Achane, likewise, didn’t have a big game on the ground against Jacksonville, generating 24 yards on 10 carries with a TD, but proved dynamic as a pass-catcher to net seven catches for 76 yards.
If the second-year back also joins Mostert on the sideline, it would take a big chunk out of the Dolphins’ explosive ability.
Jeff Wilson led the Dolphins with 26 yards rushing on five carries in Week 1. He figures to see his role increase Thursday night against Buffalo with the top two backs ailing.
Week 1 marked the first time Miami did not have a player with 30-plus rush yards since the 2022 AFC Wild Card Game in Buffalo.
