NFL Green at the 2024 London Games

  • Reduced carbon: In partnership, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the NFL are calculating and offsetting the carbon footprint for local operations on gamedays.
    • Tottenham Hotspur already achieves 100% certified renewable electricity, with REGO-backed offsets.
    • This year, the NFL is helping to expand these efforts, to also offset the carbon footprint for the food and merchandise sold on NFL gamedays and the fuel used by fans for ground transport.
    • All carbon offsets will comply with the UN Sports Climate Action Framework, of which Tottenham Hotspur is a signatory.
  • Improved waste diversion: The NFL is working with Tottenham Hotspur to further contribute to their work to reduce and divert waste.
    • Tottenham Hotspur is already working hard to reduce waste generated across all events at its stadium. This includes minimizing single-use plastics and packaging and donating leftover food to local charities.
    • Waste that cannot be avoided is diverted to a secondary use. The first priority is recycling and reuse of materials, followed by energy recovery. For the two NFL games at Tottenham in 2023, the stadium recycled 15 tons of plastic and anaerobically digested 10 tons of food scraps into fuels and fertilizers.
    • This year, the NFL is working hand in hand with the stadium on their existing efforts to maximize waste recycling. This includes resources to enhance existing sorting techniques and training for front-of-house staff to help educate fans.
  • Looking ahead: The NFL is developing a long-term sustainability strategy for their international games, to set clear goals and methods for how to expand efforts in future years.
    • Tottenham Hotspur. have made a commitment with (1) the UN Race to Zero to become net zero carbon by 2040, and (2) the ISO 20121 standard, to follow sustainable event management standards across an array of social, economic, and environmental issues.
    • The NFL and Tottenham Hotspur are committed to continuing to enhance sustainability across future events.
