Giants RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) active vs. Bills

There will be no Daniel Jones, but Saquon Barkley will make his long-awaited return to the New York Giants’ backfield in Week 6.

Barkley is officially active for the Giants’ Sunday night clash with the host Buffalo Bills despite dealing with a high ankle sprain.

New York enters the game on a three-game losing streak with a sputtering offense that’s scored just 31 points during the skid. Being without Jones, who was ruled out Friday with a neck injury and will be replaced by Tyrod Taylor, certainly doesn’t bode well for an offensive turnaround, but Barkley’s return could provide a spark.

Throughout the week at practice, the Giants’ star running back was restricted and was labeled as questionable for the upcoming game.

Although he is active, it is still uncertain how much strain Barkley’s ankle can withstand.

During a Week 2 victory against the Arizona Cardinals, Barkley was slightly injured. The 26-year-old, who has been named to the Pro Bowl twice, has so far this season run for 114 yards on 29 attempts and received nine passes, gaining an additional 41 yards. He has also scored two touchdowns.

Although Barkley’s performance has not been exceptionally impressive, his absence has been deeply felt. Barkley, who has sat out several games in four out of his six seasons due to injuries, has had a career marred by physical setbacks. Since his drafting in 2018, the Giants have a disappointing 9-15 record in games he did not play.

New York enters the game dead last in yards and 31st in points scored. Big Blue is hoping its prospects of keeping up with Josh Allen and the Bills are improved with Barkley’s return.

The Giants, with a 1-4 record, will start their game against the Bills, who have a 3-2 record, at 8:20 p.m. ET.
