From winning a second Super Bowl to Saturday Night Live to Taylor Swift mania, it keeps coming up Travis Kelce in 2023.
On Sunday, Kelce made history by adding to his calendar as the star of the Kansas City Chiefs. He became the fourth and fastest tight end to reach 11,000 career receiving yards.
Kelce’s 27-yard catch in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ 31-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders put him past the milestone mark. He did it in his 154th game, making him the fastest in NFL chronicle to hit 11K. Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez was the previous standard bearer at 191 games.
Kelce came into the game needing only 15 yards to reach 11,000. He ended the game with six receptions for 91 yards, bringing his career total to 11,076.
Kelce, the only player from the Chiefs to have received 11,000 yards, had already secured the fourth place in all-time receiving yards among tight ends, and was one of the four tight ends with 10,000 yards. He is now inching closer to Antonio Gates, who is at 11,841 yards, a milestone he could feasibly achieve in 2024. Jason Witten is in second place all-time with 13,036 yards and Gonzalez leads the list with 15,127 yards.
Kelce, an eight-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, continues to strengthen his Hall of Fame credentials while potentially establishing himself as the greatest tight end in history. The 34-year-old already ranks in the top four for career receptions and receiving yards among tight ends, holds the record for the most 100-yard receiving games in the tight end position, and is heading towards his eighth 1,000-yard season – a feat no other tight end has achieved more than four times.
Another milestone was reached by Kelce on Sunday, in what has been a remarkable year.
