LAS VEGAS — The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Washington Wizards, 98-92, in the first consolation round of the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Friday.

The Mavericks led by as much as 18 points late in the first quarter but the Wizards slowly whittled away Dallas’ lead down to one by the half. The lead changed hands 10 times in the second half, with the Mavs finally pulling away in the closing minutes. Dallas didn’t do themselves any favors on the offensive end, as they coughed up the ball 22 times, while the Wizards’ troubles came from beyond the arc, converting only 23.1 percent of their 3-pointers.

Josh Adams and Jalen Jones led the way for the Mavericks with 21 points each. 2018 second-round pick Ray Spalding continued his solid play with eight rebounds and a blocked shot to go along with six points.

The Wizards once again saw a promising night from first-round pick Troy Brown, as the standout from Oregon led Washington in scoring with 25 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Devin Robinson also kept the ball rolling in his excellent summer campaign with a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. Robinson has scored 20 points or more in three of five Summer League contests.

Friday’s game concludes Summer League play for the Wizards, while Dallas will move on in the consolation bracket.
