Thunder star Russell Westbrook brought his historic season to a close on Wednesday, finishing with a single-season record 42 triple-doubles and matching Oscar Robertson as the only player in NBA annals to average a triple-double.
Robertson was on hand for Wednesday’s at Chesapeake Energy Arena, where he declared Westbrook as the league’s MVP in a pregame address to the crowd. Westbrook went on to rack up five points, five rebounds and eight assists in 18 minutes before sitting for the second half of the Thunder’s 111-105 loss to the Nuggets.
It didn’t hurt his overall averages, which finished at 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists. In addition to matching Robertson’s feats from 1961-62, Westbrook clinched his second scoring championship in the past three seasons.
