OKLAHOMA CITY — As first reported by ESPN, the NBA is investigating an incident between Rockets guard Pat Beverley and a fan following Game 3 of the playoffs on Friday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
“The Rockets are taking care of the situation,” Beverley said prior to Saturday’s practice at the arena. “I’ll talk after the investigation is done.”
When Beverley fell to the floor after attempting a layup in the second quarter, he landed at the feet of a fan identified by ESPN as Stuart Scaramucci, son of Thunder minority owner Jay Scaramucci. The fan, who was sitting behind the basket, waved a cardboard sign at Beverley, prompting the guard to complain to referee Scott Foster.
After the final horn sounded in the Thunder’s 115-113 win, Beverley took a few steps toward the fan and the two exchanged angry words. Beverley was pulled away by teammate Sam Dekker. According to Rockets sources, the team requested that the league look into the incident.
By policy, the league reviews video footage of all incidents to determine if a player went into the stands in order to determine if any disciplinary measures should be taken.
