Gasol, the 34-year-old Spaniard, signed a five-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2015, which was worth approximately $25.6 million in its final year. If he had not accepted it before Thursday, he would have entered free agency on Sunday.

Kawhi Leonard, the star of the Raptors, has a one-year player option on his contract, with a decision deadline on Saturday. However, he is anticipated to reject the option and become a free agent on Sunday, following his leadership in Toronto’s first NBA championship win. Danny Green, another regular player for the Raptors, is also expected to become a free agent.

In February, the Raptors obtained Gasol from the Grizzlies.

This season, in 79 regular-season games with the Raptors and Memphis, Gasol had an average of 13.6 points and 7.9 rebounds. He also averaged 9.4 points and 6.4 rebounds over 24 playoff games.
