Kyrie Irving was instrumental in the Nets’ undefeated Western road trip.
Over their five-game trip out West, the Brooklyn Nets allowed 116.3 points per 100 possessions, a mark which gave them the league’s 21st-ranked defense over those nine days. And it didn’t matter. The Nets shot 53%, including 45% from 3-point range, and they cut down on their turnovers, scoring more than 125 points per 100 possessions as they swept the five-game trip. And they did it without Kevin Durant for four of the five games, and without Kyrie Irving for their comeback win in Phoenix on Tuesday.
Ignore the defeats against the Wizards, Thunder, Cavs, and Pistons. Disregard their continuous defensive problems. The Nets have triumphed over every strong team they’ve encountered this season. They are an offensive powerhouse, even with only two of their three stars playing.
Following a six-game winning streak, the Nets have ascended to the No. 2 position in the Power Rankings. Despite the cessation of the Utah Jazz’s nine-game streak, they maintain an impressive 20-2 record over the past 6 1/2 weeks, standing out in a season marked by a lack of consistency among most teams.

But they have some big opportunities to rebound this week, with a three-game trip that takes them through Phoenix (Monday), Denver (Tuesday) and L.A., where they’ll play the Lakers on Friday night.
