Knicks reach 1-year deal with GM Scott Perry

NEW YORK (AP) — Scott Perry will remain general manager of the New York Knicks after agreeing to a new one-year deal with the team Wednesday.

Perry ran the team’s basketball operations after Steve Mills was fired as president in February. Longtime player agent Leon Rose was hired to replace Mills on March 2, shortly before the NBA season was suspended because of the virus outbreak.

Rose made the decision to retain Perry for the upcoming season as his first major action. There was a mutual option in Perry’s contract with the Knicks, which required a decision by May 1.

“Scott is a highly esteemed basketball executive whom I’ve known for over two decades,” Rose stated. “I’m eager to continue our close collaboration as we strive to create a victorious team in New York.”

Perry’s return was first reported by Newsday.

Perry was taken on board by the Knicks on July 14, 2017, and stayed through a tumultuous time of upheaval which saw the dismissal of coach David Fizdale early on, and later Mills. He steered the team through the NBA’s trade deadline, trading veteran forward Marcus Morris to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rose will still need to make decisions regarding interim coach Mike Miller and other members of the Knicks’ front office.

The season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic when the Knicks had a record of 21-45.
