Atlanta Hawks

Reports: Hawks trade Dedmon to Pistons

A reported trade has been worked out between two Eastern Conference teams with playoff hopes to address some crucial needs.

According to various reports, the Atlanta Hawks have agreed to trade center Dewayne Dedmon to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas. This news was first revealed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Hawks will gain significant salary cap space by trading Dedmon, who earns a salary of $13.3 million this season. Snell, on the other hand, will earn $12.1 million in the 2020-21 season, which is the last year of his contract. It’s important to note that Dedmon’s $13.3 million salary for the 2021-22 season is not guaranteed.

Sources inform ESPN that Detroit is swapping Khyri Thomas and Tony Snell for Dewayne Dedmon from Atlanta.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 19, 2020

Confirmed that the #Pistons are getting Dewayne Dedmon for the #Hawks for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.

Dedmon is scheduled to earn $13.3M this season, with another $13.3M for 2021-2022 that is not guaranteed.

— Rod Beard (@detnewsRodBeard) November 19, 2020

Dedmon provides the Pistons with a strong frontcourt presence and rebounding skills on the court. Following his trade to the Hawks from the Sacramento Kings on February 6th, he averaged 8.1 points and 8.2 rebounds over 10 games last season. Dedmon has consistently demonstrated his ability as a frontcourt player, with averages of 10.8 points per game (ppg) and 7.5 rebounds per game (rpg) in the 2018-19 season, and 10.0 ppg and 7.9 rpg in the 2017-18 season.

Snell is a proficient 3-point shooter, having successfully made 40.2% of those shots last season with the Pistons. Over his career, he has maintained a 38.5% shooting average from the 3-point range. His talent for expanding the game will be beneficial for the youthful Hawks and their All-Star guard, Trae Young. In addition, it will provide greater offensive space for strong performers like John Collins and Clint Capela.

Report: Temple’s option not picked up

The Brooklyn Nets are parting ways with swingman Garrett Temple.

The veteran combo guard joined the Nets last season as a free agent, but will not have his $5 million option picked up for 2020-21, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Charlotte Hornets

Report: Bacon won’t get qualifying offer

Dwane Bacon, a third-year guard, will reportedly become an unrestricted free agent this summer as Charlotte is said to be passing on extending him a qualifying offer.

Rod Boone from The Athletic has reported that the Hornets’ separation from Bacon seemed unavoidable after he was replaced by Devonte’ Graham in the starting lineup. Bacon, who has been part of Charlotte’s team since 2017, showed a decrease in performance last season, with his stats falling (5.7 ppg, 34.8% FG) compared to his career-best in 2018-19 (7.3 points and 47.5% shooting). This marked decline led to his relegation to the G League with the Greensboro Swarm by February, after struggling on the offensive end.

Per a league source, #Hornets will not extend a qualifying offer to Dwayne Bacon by today's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. Bacon began last season as the starting shooting guard but struggled and was replaced in lineup by Devonte' Graham. Split seemed inevitable

According to various reports, the Atlanta Hawks are trading center Dewayne Dedmon to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.
