LAS VEGAS – Rookie first-round pick Jared McCain’s strong all-around play, which included two clutch free throws in the closing seconds, helped the Philadelphia 76ers to a hard-fought 92-90 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in an NBA 2K25 Summer League battle at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.
The first half played out in a manner befitting the tightly contested affair the game would prove to be, as the 76ers held a thin 48-46 lead over the Timberwolves at intermission. However, Philadelphia appeared to take control of the contest when it outscored Minnesota by a 28-14 margin in the third quarter, but the Wolves clawed all the way back to take an 86-85 lead with 2:10 remaining. Nevertheless, the Sixers would finish on a 7-4 run, with Jeff Dowtin and McCain accounting for those points, sealing the victory.
McCain led the 76ers with 21 points, adding seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. Dowtin furnished 17 points, three assists and one steal. Ricky Council IV delivered 13 points, seven boards, two assists and four steals. Rookie second-round selection Adem Bona supplied 10 points, nine rebounds, one steal and one block.
Leonard Miller and Daishen Nix tied for the Timberwolves’ team-high with matching 22-point tallies, pulling down 13 and five rebounds, respectively; Nix added five assists. Josh Minott finished with 18 points, six rebounds, one steal and one block. No. 8 overall section Rob Dillingham turned in 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and one block.
The 76ers return to the floor Friday against the San Antonio Spurs, while the Timberwolves tangle with the Houston Rockets on Thursday.
