Field for G League's 2021 Showcase Cup set

LAS VEGAS Eight NBA G League teams have qualified for the 2021 Showcase Cup taking place during the 2021 AT&T NBA G League Winter Showcase at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center from Dec. 19-22.

The 17th annual scouting event tips off tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET with a game between the Wisconsin Herd and South Bay Lakers on ESPN2. Later in the day, NBA G League Ignite takes on the Grand Rapids Gold on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. ET. The Showcase Cup Championship game will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPNews. NBA G League games from Las Vegas will be broadcast across the ESPN family of networks, NBA TV and GLeague.nba.com.

The Delaware Blue Coats earned the Showcase Cup’s top seed while the Maine Celtics (2), Rio Grande Valley Vipers (3) round out the top three seeds.  The Lakers (4), Wisconsin (5), Oklahoma City Blue (6), Motor City Cruise (7) and Fort Wayne Mad Ants (8) complete the field competing in the single-elimination tournament for the right to hoist the Showcase Cup Championship trophy.

Four seeds were awarded to the teams with the best records in their respective regional pods.  The other four seeds qualified by having the next best winning-percentages regardless of region.  Ties were broken first using head-to-head winning-percentage followed by point differential.  Teams that did not qualify for the Showcase Cup will each play two games in Las Vegas.

Following the Showcase Cup, team records will reset and the 36-game regular season will tip off on Monday, Dec. 27.
