Celtics center Robert Williams III is in the midst of a career-best season.
Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III will be out several weeks after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee.
The Celtics announced Tuesday that Williams had surgery on the injury and miss the next four to six weeks as he recovers. If that timetable holds up, then Williams would likely be returning during the first round of the playoffs or slightly before the Eastern Conference semifinals begin (should Boston advance that far).
Shortly after news of the surgery was announced by the team, Williams took to Twitter and posted: “Surgery went well, Preciate all the prayers and concern!”

Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Athletic were the first to report the news of Williams’ initial injury diagnosis earlier this week.
Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds in Boston’s 134-112 home win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, but limped off the court at the end of the third quarter and did not return.
The team said after the game that Williams had a left knee sprain. Celtics coach Ime Udoka said Williams had “quite a bit of pain” but the team would know more after seeing a scan on Monday.
Boston’s is in the thick off the chase for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference as the 2021-22 season heads into its final days and weeks.
The 24-year-old Williams is enjoying a career-best season, averaging personal bests in points (9.9), rebounds (9.6), minutes (29.7) and blocks (2.2) per game.
