Bucks, relatives say Antetokounmpo’s social media was hacked

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo’s social media accounts were hacked on Thursday afternoon and several bizarre and offensive tweets were posted, according to the Milwaukee Bucks, Antetokounmpo’s brother and the player’s representatives.

Over a dozen tweets suddenly appeared on Antetokounmpo’s feed within roughly five minutes, evidently the work of someone other than the current MVP. The tweets contained racial slurs, crude attacks on other players, and a false assertion that Antetokounmpo was infected with the coronavirus.

“Giannis’ social media, phone, email, and bank accounts were compromised!” tweeted Los Angeles Lakers forward, Kostas Antetokounmpo. “He sincerely apologizes for any inappropriate and disgusting comments made by the hacker. He will return as soon as possible!”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s account didn’t display the tweets for long before they disappeared.

On Thursday night, Giannis Antetokounmpo tweeted to confirm that his account was compromised. He expressed feeling “terrible” for the players who were mentioned in the false and harmful tweets.

“Antetokounmpo tweeted, “The tweets and posts were utterly inappropriate. It’s disappointing and disgusting that someone would utter such terrible things!”

The Bucks confirmed in a statement that an investigation is currently in progress. Octagon, the agency representing Antetokounmpo, also verified the hacking incident.
